Fine Arts Update

The school year is in full swing and many of you are attending competitions, supporting students with auditions, and preparing to have a somewhat normal holiday season (which may require lots of additional hours of rehearsals, planning, etc.). It's difficult to find time for yourself to recharge, but I encourage you to do so however you can. It may mean you protect your plan time one day of the week to rest and refocus. Take a walk or enjoy time outside in the evening. Or you could drive home from school listening to your absolute favorite music, with the windows down and a Sonic drink in hand. Recharge and breathe - you've got this!

Free OSDE Regional Professional Learning Workshops

OSDE is excited to announce free, curriculum and instruction professional learning workshops for the 2021-22 school year. These three-hour workshops will be held in five different regions of the state and are designed to support educators with effective instructional strategies and resources aligned to the Oklahoma Academic Standards.

The Fine Arts workshop will focus on the new fine arts curriculum framework. Participants will be able to network with other arts educators and explore resources for their dance, drama/theatre, music, or visual art classroom.

Click on the links below to register for a workshop.

Please note that added safety measures are being taken at each location to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Each session has been designed to provide ample spacing for participants, and tables and chairs will be cleaned prior to session start times. Mask wearing will be highly encouraged, and additional measures will be implemented throughout the session to allow participants to feel comfortable while engaging in professional learning activities.

OSDE Connect

If you are looking for online professional development opportunities, please check out the OSDE Connect site. This learning community has modules with training in various education topics, including the arts. Currently, there are 4 modules that cover the new Fine Arts Curriculum Frameworks. This fall, more modules will be added, including an elementary general music module with an overview of the Kodály methodology. If you are interested in professional development and appreciate online learning opportunities, check it out!
