Community Spotlight: Girls Who Code

Girls Who Code

Girls Who Code, an international non-profit is closing the gender gap in tech. They value diversity, equity and inclusion as essential to their mission focusing work not only on gender diversity but also on young women who are historically underrepresented in computer science fields.

Their 2021 Summer Immersion Program (SIP) is a FREE 2-week virtual program for 9th - 11th grade (rising sophomores, juniors or seniors) girls and non-binary students to build a coding portfolio, meet industry employees, and build community with other peers. At Girls Who Code, they are committed to ensuring equity and diversity across all of their programs, which is why over 50% of the students they serve are from historically underrepresented groups. For more information, view SIP Student Flyer (PDF version).

Cancer Unwrapped Writing Contest

Deadline Approaching...

Extended deadline: March 14, 2021

The Cancer Unwrapped Teen Writing Contest opens a dialogue with teens about their emotions and realities when dealing with cancer, whether their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.

This national program encourages teens to write about their experiences for the opportunity to win one of several $1,000 cash prizes.

We aim to give a voice to teens representing an array of social identities and lived experiences. Our mission at Cancer Pathways (formerly Gilda's Club Seattle) is to 'face cancer together' - this writing contest is one of the ways we help teens and their families realize they are not alone. The most current guidelines and information can be found here.
