Build My Future OKC is going online for 2020 and we invite Central Oklahoma area high school students to explore different trades in the building industry during Careers in Construction month this October.
Each Monday in October will offer new content for the students. There will be a Tool Talk video interview with a skilled tradesperson, and new mini-course modules. The online mini-courses offer opportunities to engage with many skilled trades and basic construction activities. These mini-courses are offered for a limited time, so be sure students engage by December 4, 2020.
No registration is required! Engage with the video interviews, online training and the many resources at your own pace as a class or individually. This format works in a physical classroom, a virtual classroom or for at-home learning.
We will be promoting, engaging and interacting on the Build My Future Facebook and Instagram pages. This could be a way for your students to share with and encourage other students. We hope parents will be able to benefit from this information as well and that by Following/Sharing we can get this information to even more. The National Postsecondary Strategy Institute (NPSI) in partnership with Reach Higher launches the Power of Hope Award. The Power of Hope Award will recognize school districts that engage school counselors in leadership roles that effectively organize and implement grades 6th-12th college and career postsecondary enrollment strategies.
The Power of Hope Award is built on the belief that the nation’s economic growth is dependent upon continuing to significantly increase the percentages of low income and predominantly minority students’ successfully completing postsecondary pathways.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama first articulated the message of the power of hope in January 2017 at her last speech at the School Counselor of the Year Award Ceremony. NPSI is proud to advance the work of Reach Higher and recognize school districts that are supporting school counselors and engaging them as postsecondary leaders.
APPLY TODAY! Click here for the Power of Hope application!
NPSI will host an informational webinar on October 15, 2020 at 12:00 PM (CST). Register for the webinar here.
Applications are due by 11:59 P.M. CST on December 15th, 2020
Winners of the Power of Hope Award will be announced the first week of March, 2021 at the National Postsecondary Strategy Institute (NPSI) National Conference which will be held virtually. Sign up for conference updates here.

This year students can access the FAFSA by visiting FAFSA.gov or by using the myStudentAid mobile app. The FAFSA should be completed as soon as possible after Oct. 1 to ensure priority consideration for some types of financial aid. It is best to gather all necessary materials before starting the FAFSA. Since the 2021-22 FAFSA allows applicants to use 2019 tax information, families can use their 2019 return to complete the application ASAP. There is no need to wait!
To complete and submit the FAFSA online, students and one of their parents will each need to create an FSA ID (Federal Student Aid ID) at FSAID.ed.gov. This username/password serves as an electronic signature on the FAFSA and certain student loan applications, and allows them to access other federal student aid websites. It is beneficial for families to create their FSA IDs before starting the FAFSA to speed up the application process. Visit UCanGo2.org to download an FSA ID Worksheet (in English and Spanish) to keep track of your information.
For more information and FAFSA resources, including educational tools and tutorial videos in English and Spanish, visit StartWithFAFSA.org.
