Oklahoma Fall Arts Institute

From Julie Cohen and the staff at OAI:

The Oklahoma Fall Arts Institute is moving to a new online format. The goal is to provide a flexible experience that will allow educators and other artists to engage online through a variety of workshop opportunities. As always, public educators will be eligible for full scholarships to participate in OFAI workshops and will receive professional development credits upon completion.

We will also continue to offer a variety of workshops that will appeal to other community artists seeking to deepen their skills in the literary, visual and performing arts. As many of you know, each year we have long waitlists for our workshops, and we hope that this new format will allow us to serve even more of our dedicated OFAI family.

Keep an eye on your email inbox and follow us @oaiquartz on social media to stay tuned for more details. And, as always, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Spotlight Story

Recently, education leader Sir Ken Robinson passed away after a short battle with cancer. He was proactive in calling schools to be more creative spaces and shift their focus from language and math. His TED talk is the most viewed in history and worth watching. A quote from his presentation:

Lyric Theatre Clubhouse

lyric clubhouse

Over the spring and summer, OKC's Lyric Theatre has developed "Lyric Kids' Clubhouse" - a children's show created in their OKC theatre utilizing local actors, dancers, and kids! The show is designed for young children with new episodes each week on Lyric's YouTube channel and Facebook page

Episodes help children normalize this time by discussing the many different issues happening and add a bit of silliness in as well. Elementary teachers - though the program may not be appropriate for all your students, consider asking some of your more self-assured students to send in videos with questions, jokes, or other topics as requested by Lyric. Parents can send videos to info@lyrictheatreokc.org

Oklahoma State Superintendent’s Art Gallery Schedule

The art display for Youth Arts Month was removed and teachers will be able to pick up their student art from OAEA members soon.

A new gallery schedule will be developed soon. Stay tuned!

virtual art gallery is available on the SDE Fine Arts website for students and families who would like to see pictures of their work in the OSDE (Oliver Hodge) Building.
