FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OSDE annual summer conference goes virtual

OKLAHOMA CITY (July 13, 2020) – The Oklahoma State Department of Education’s annual summer professional development conference starts Wednesday in a new format. While EngageOK on the Road has traveled around the state in recent years, this year’s conference, now called EngageOK in the Cloud, will be held online as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The free conference will be held Wednesday, July 15, through Friday, July 17. More than 30 sessions will be offered. Some of the sessions include:

  • Distance Learning: Navigating Uncertainty
  • Teaching the Tulsa Race Massacre in High School
  • Identifying and Meeting the Needs of At-Risk Students
  • Grading for Equity

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister will open the conference, moderating a panel discussion with high school students about how COVID-19, distance learning and systemic racism have impacted students and schools. Two sessions will be livestreamed on OSDE’s Facebook page – the student panel at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, and Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Jena Nelson’s keynote at 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 16. See the event schedule for more details on individual sessions.

Attendees will have the opportunity to network via an app during the conference. EngageOK in the Cloud is offered at no cost to educators, but attendees must register. All sessions will be recorded and posted to the EngageOK website.

MEDIA: If you are interested in attending an EngageOK in the Cloud session, please contact Steffie Corcoran or Carrie Burkhart.
