July 2020

This summer seems to be slipping by quickly. Hopefully, you have been able to take time to relax and take care of yourself after last school year’s unusual ending. The 2020-21 school year is going to be a unique challenge. None of us knows what the school year will bring. As you start to consider what your classroom or school may look like in August, it may be wise to start discussions with other teachers in your building and beyond. Come up with shared ideas of what the year could look like and share those with your administration. Keep in mind that your local school board will be making decisions regarding the 2020-21 school year and that the Oklahoma State Department of Education continues to share best practices for all instructional settings and to support teachers across our great state.

EngageOK 2020

Every July, the OSDE presents professional development in schools across the state. This year, the PD has moved online and teachers from all over the state may attend sessions! You can find more information on the EngageOK site.

Please note that the Education Technology  Session Keeping Students Safe Online through Digital Citizenship will be on Thursday, July 16 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Join other teachers to learn how to teach digital citizenship to students in grades K-12.

Education Technology Tool Video Tutorial Database

As more schools increase the use of education technology tools, there has been a greater need for professional development and tutorials to help users navigate these tools. To provide easy access to tutorials and guides, the OSDE has created a video tutorial database of many commonly used education technology tools and websites. This database can be filtered by the tool, the type of user, and the user level’s skill with technology. If your school uses tools not listed in the database, please email Karen Leonard to request adding them. This database will continue to grow as more tools are used across the state.

Current tools in database:

  • Canvas
  • Edupuzzle
  • Exact Path
  • Google Classroom
  • Google Jamboard
  • Google Meet
  • Kahoot!
  • Pear Deck
  • Screencastify
  • Seesaw

Tech Tool Tuesdays

Every Tuesday for the remainder of the summer, OSDE will be offering a professional development series related to commonly used Education Technology tools. These tutorial sessions will each last between 30-60 minutes and require advanced registration. All PK-12 Oklahoma educators are welcome to attend these sessions and learn about tools that can help support them with instruction for the 2020-21 school year. Registration links are found below. Video recordings of these sessions may be accessed further down on this page.
