Joint Statement on Serving Students with Disabilities During the COVID-19 Outbreak

The Oklahoma State Department of Education, the Oklahoma Parents Center, the Oklahoma Directors of Special Services, and the IDEA Part B State Advisory Panel remain committed to the provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). We believe the rights of all students with disabilities must be maintained, even during school closures and distance learning, in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

OAAP Distance Learning Resources

The OAAP Distance Learning Resources page has been created to support teachers meeting instructional needs for students with significant cognitive disabilities through distance learning. This page contains instructional activities in addition to resources provided by Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) for teachers and parents. The page will be updated regularly as resources are developed and shared. If you know of a high quality resource you would like to share, please contact Kurt.Johnson@sde.ok.gov.


Student Enrollment - KITE Educator Portal

As part of the Oklahoma State Testing Program (OSTP), Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) testing through the Oklahoma Alternate Assessment Program (OAAP) has been suspended for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Students currently enrolled in KITE Educator Portal may remain enrolled. There is no need for districts to exit students. Questions regarding student enrollment or the suspended testing window should be directed to the Oklahoma DLM Help Desk at 1-844-261-6481 or emailed to Kurt.Johnson@sde.ok.gov.


FY2021 Assurances

The FY2021 Assurances are now available online. You can access the Assurances through the GMS. Assurances must be submitted by June 30, 2020.  Should you have any questions please contact your finance specialist.


Update: End of Year Data Collection Training

As of now, the end of year special education data collection will still occur on July 1, and districts will be held liable for the quality of their data. Until OSEP advises otherwise, we must collect and report all required data elements per IDEA.

However, the in-person training seminars for the end-of-year data collection/reporting have been cancelled. All training will be done online. You may still register for the shorter webinars on April 21 and 22, or participate in a longer comprehensive webinar now on April 14. Please see the attached document for all registration links. Please email ginger.elliott-teague@sde.ok.gov with training questions. Slides will be posted sometime in the next week or two for viewing.
