Happy Holidays!

ctree

As we enter this holiday season, we can all benefit from reflecting on what we have accomplished during 2019. Each of us have had many successes along with opportunities to learn from mistakes or failures. Be sure to not only take the time to reflect both professionally and personally, but to also use this holiday as a time to refresh yourself personally. Thank you for all you have done this year to help build a stronger education system in Oklahoma. Know that you are making a difference in student lives daily!

Happy holidays!

Teacher Spotlight

Samatha Leonard

Samatha is a middle school math teacher at Central Middle School in Lawton. She applied to attend the first Oklahoma State Department of EducationBootstrap Algebra integration workshop this past summer to expand her knowledge and learn new ways to engage her seventh-grade math students. After attending the summer Bootstrap Algebra workshop, she returned again for a refresher workshop in September. Samatha used some of the skills she learned to teach coding to her school’s coding club using Pyret coding language. Students in her club used Pyret to code to create flags from around the world. Due to her students’ enthusiasm for creating flags, what was intended to be a short project ended up stretching over many weeks. Thank you, Samatha, for finding new ways to create excitement for coding!

Another Bootstrap Algebra workshop is planned for June 2020. Information regarding applying for this workshop will be shared in future newsletters.
