Fall Regional Meetings

The Oklahoma State Department of Education is excited to announce free professional learning workshops for the 2019-2020 school year hosted by the Office of Curriculum and Instruction. These workshops are being offered in different regions of the state and are designed to support educators with effective instructional strategies.

Engaging Families to Support Gifted Education

Educators will learn new strategies for engaging and educating families on gifted education so they can better support their students.

Find more information about the workshops and register by clicking on the date of the event you would like to attend. Space is limited and we encourage signing up quickly. However, please be sure to cancel any ticket that will go unused as many teachers are hoping to attend these workshops and we would like to have no empty seats.

PL Focus on Family Engagement

Family Engagement

Each year in Oklahoma, teachers are asked to choose a Professional Learning (PL) Focus. With the PL Focus, teachers now have a front-row seat to their own professional learning and can tailor it to their needs and, more importantly, the needs of their students.

For the 2019-20 school year, Gifted and Talented teachers across Oklahoma will have the opportunity to choose Family Engagement as their PL Focus and receive free professional development opportunities, quarterly live webinars, and even a book study in which to participate.

We will be using the book "Engage Every Family" by Steve Constantino for our book study. This will be a virtual book study meeting online once a month. Dr. Constantino has provided us with multiple resources that we will use as we read through this book together and focus on his Engage Every Family: 5 Simple Practices so purchasing the book is not necessary to join these monthly discussions.

Our webinars this year will be on the following dates:

Please click on the dates above to register for the webinars. All webinars will be recorded and house on the Gifted and Talented page of the Oklahoma State Department of Education website.

Parent Teacher Conferences Resources

As we wind down the first quarter of the school year, many schools have parent teacher conferences right around the corner. Sometimes, families have questions about the education their gifted student is receiving and how they can support this learning at home.

Education Week has conveniently put all of their articles about gifted education into one blog post titled "Unwrapping the Gifted." The titles of the articles are very informative and allow you to search for some very pertinent information for specific students and families within your class.
