Checklist- What Should We Be Doing

  • Try 2 LEARN Strategies
  • Share your 5E ideas with Christy and Theresa
  • Try out some 5Es! Just because we aren’t there, doesn’t mean you can’t try it! If your district already has the Swivl, record the lesson and share it with us!

Congrats Mrs. Blackmon!

TOY

Congrats Donna Blackmon at Jefferson Elementary in Ardmore, on being selected as your site's Teacher of the Year! What a great accomplishment. We have watched as you have positively changed the conversation about GT education with your 2nd grade team and have encouraged the growth of the teachers around you. We are lucky to work with you, and we know your students are lucky to learn from you each day!

Strategy Highlight

I Used to Think- But Now I Know”

This is a great strategy to activate prior knowledge at the beginning of a lesson and use as a formative assessment at the end. Students begin by reflecting on what they know about a topic before learning. Then after the lesson, they share what they now know about the topic. Simple to implement, this strategy takes very little planning, and uses only a sheet of paper and pencil.

Family Guides

Have you seen the OK Curriculum Family Guides for grades K-2? We know that exposure to learning opportunities is one way to improve identification for underrepresented GT students. Sharing these Family Guides with your student's families will give them an opportunity to extend learning into their homes. This great communication tool is free for you to use with ALL of your students. Don’t worry grades 3-5, yours are coming soon!

Lessons: Copyright & Publishing Reminders

Remember that when we are publishing lesson we have to follow copyright laws. Here are a few tips to tuck away for later.

  1. We can not use lessons or materials that are already published by textbook companies or groups like Teachers Pay Teachers.  Feel free to use it as inspiration, but we need to create our own materials for things like worksheets, power points, sample problems, etc.
  2. Any images we used must be “labeled for reuse.”  You can search for “reusable” images in Google by clicking on the “tools” and “Labeled for reuse.” See the image above for guidance.
