Approximately 120 educators from 40 school districts participated in ABLE Tech’s fall AT Support Team Workshops in Owasso. Seats are filling fast for the repeat sessions scheduled in Lawton during the spring semester.

 “Our district will implement each part of this training over the next year or so. Our team members will be the ones that create the procedures and explain the worksheets to the rest of our district. AT will be a step in the IEP process.”
“I will be creating mini-binders with the flowchart and forms and will begin to ensure that at least my caseload is handled in a systematic, documented manner. The longer-term goal is to move outward from myself and create this as part of our SPED culture in my district. A lot of these activities are going on, but it is more informal and often no documentation accompanies them.”
 “My student loves using the visual schedule (created in a Make n’ Take activity) when he completes the task and can move over to the “done” column. He also loves to work toward using “duo” as a reinforcement tool for good behavior using the token chart.”

AT Assessment Part 3 – AT in the IEP and Implementation

Description: Participants will learn how to write AT in the IEP, summarize the Implementation process, compare and contrast AT across disabilities, and identify funding resources for the acquisition of devices. Afternoon breakout sessions will offer educators opportunities to explore devices in the categories of their choosing.

AT for Daily Living includes tools to help an individual with a disability to complete everyday activities such as dressing, grooming, bathing, eating, hygiene, and meal preparation. Such tools are appropriate for anyone who is not able to complete daily living tasks for themselves at the same level as their peers. Daily living tasks may take place in various places throughout the day. including the classroom, cafeteria, restrooms, and in the student’s home.
Adapted tools can reduce or eliminate the need for human assistance with many tasks, increasing independence, and self-efficacy, which can carry over into other aspects of the individual's life.

ABLE Tech recently added a robotic feeding tool to the Device Demonstration and Loan Program. The iEAT Feeding Robot is designed for people with limited or no arm, hand and/or finger function. The iEAT Feeding Robot has an automatic and semi-automatic mode. When the iEAT Feeding Robot is set to automatic mode the user can eat his/her meal without having to use their hand(s) or fingers(s). When set to semi-automatic mode the user can control and operate the iEAT Feeding Robot themselves. |

Job Coaches are an integral part of a Transition Team, helping to prepare a student with a disability to learn the skills necessary in order to be a productive worker. Also called Employment Training Specialists, Job Coaches can provide much-needed guidance and support to students as they prepare for employment after high school.
