Accountability Important Updates and Reminders:
Postsecondary Opportunities

The Office of Accountability has important reminders and updates regarding data collected for the Postsecondary Opportunities indicator on the new School Report Cards. As a reminder, the Postsecondary Opportunities indicator is worth 10 out of 90 points (11% of the total). These data are collected via the Postsecondary Opportunities Report in the Wave and from CareerTech, completed in late spring and early summer, respectively. We recommend all high schools to review the following information and ensure to their students’ data is reported properly.

Students may earn a credit for participating in College Prep Coursework (i.e. Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate), Internships, Dual (Concurrent) College Enrollment or Industry Certification Programs (i.e. CareerTech career major courses). Please note that Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP) is not eligible.

Each student receives 1 participation point regardless of how many eligible courses they are taking. To earn a participation point, the student must have earned a D or higher in all terms of the eligible coursework.

1. Fields that are required to be reported to the Wave from local student information system (SIS) vendor. If any of the below fields are missing/incomplete, the record cannot be used for accountability:

PO Field

2. CareerTech coursework is reported to SDE directly from CareerTech. This report is provided after the close of the Postsecondary Opportunities report and thus is not visible in the Wave. However, districts should work with their CareerTech liaison to ensure that all students are properly reported.

3. The Office of Accountability is committed to increasing data quality and accuracy. It is our goal that the data is consistent between the local SIS and the Wave. In order to maintain consistency and transparency, the local SIS should house the same data as in the Wave reports. Therefore, On Screen Data Entry, Bulk Upload, and spreadsheet collection will not be available for the 2018-2019 school year. All data must be in the local SIS and reported to the Wave.

4.  Concurrent classes must have the instructional level code of 0576. Schools should use the OCAS course code that is closest to the course that the student is taking as the State Course Code.  In addition, the class/course description may be locally defined to identify the school and local course title appropriate for the course that the student is taking.

5. As the indicator points are based on participation, careful consideration has been given to the denominator of “all students.” In order to ensure that all students included in the denominator of the calculation were enrolled for a period of time sufficient to complete a postsecondary opportunity, students who are non-Full Academic Year (NFAY) are not included in this calculation.
