2017-18 College and Career Readiness (SAT or ACT) Assessment Accommodations
All students enrolled in the 11th grade will participate in the College and Career Readiness Assessment (CCRA) for the 2017-18 school year, which includes either the SAT or ACT plus writing (Part I) and the Science Content (Part II), except students participating in the Oklahoma Alternate Assessment Program (OAAP). Both SAT and ACT require schools to request appropriate accommodations for students with a documented need. Accommodation needs should be addressed during the development of the grade 11 student’s Individualized Education Program(IEP)/Section 504/English Learner Academic Plan (ELAPs; formerly known as LIEPs) or through an amendment process as necessary.
CCRA accommodation requests must be submitted to SAT or ACT during the designated window and approved before a student can be provided their SAT or ACT specific accommodations. Assessment accommodations requested on behalf of the student must be regularly used in classroom instruction and documented in the student’s IEP/504/ELAP. If an accommodation request is denied, then the student may still take the SAT or ACT with State-Approved OSTP Accommodations. However, the student’s SAT or ACT score will not be college reportable per SAT/ACT policy. The Office of Assessment will be providing revised OSTP Accommodation Manuals in the coming weeks.
- The window to submit requests for SAT/ACT accommodations will be communicated directly by SAT/ACT in the near future.
Oklahoma State Department of Education, Special Education Services (OSDE-SES) recommends gaining consent to release student information and selecting the assessment accommodations specific to SAT or ACT during the grade 11 student’s 2017-18 annual IEP meeting. In addition, schools should ensure parents of students with disabilities and English Learners (ELs) are provided information regarding SAT/ACT accommodations and the differences between a non-college reportable and college reportable score.
In addition, OSDE recommends high schools designate a staff member, early in the 2017-18 school year, to oversee all assessment accommodations for grade 11 students on IEPs/504s/ELAPs who seek to receive accommodations for the 2017-18 Grade 11 CCRA through SAT or ACT. This person will be responsible for familiarizing themselves with specific SAT or ACT accommodations, completing trainings, submitting student accommodations for approval through SAT or ACT’s online portal, and ensuring the correct accommodations are in place prior to and during the CCRA.
