For every objective outlined in the new Oklahoma Academic
Standards in Math, the OKMath Framework provides a rephrasing of the objective,
referred to as “in a nutshell.” This is followed by related teacher actions and student actions, inspired by NCTM’s Effective Teaching Practices and the OAS-M
Mathematical Actions and Processes. Each objective
also features a list of key understandings and common misconceptions.
Download the
OKMath Framework here.
On the introduction page to the OKMath Framework, you will
find an introduction video in the sidebar explaining how to maneuver through
the framework and quick links to your grade level. Within the body of the
framework, you will find key resources from the OSDE, links to each grade-level
framework and a slideshow featuring the framework writers.
OSDE would like to thank the 36 educators from across the
state who spent countless hours this past summer analyzing the standards and
objectives and providing guidance for learning progressions, unit design and
instructional task selection.
When asking for your E-Rate-eligible connection on the FCC
Form 470 or RFP, do not limit bidders based on technology. Doing so will
jeopardize funding from the Oklahoma Universal Service Fund because of changes
in the Oklahoma Telecommunications Act of 1997 (17 O.S. § 139.101 et
seq.) from HB 2616.
What does it mean to limit bidders based on technology? If
your FCC Form 470 or RFP asks for fiber or lit fiber, then it is limiting bidders based
on technology because other technologies that might be suitable are excluded.
If the 470 or RFP says, “fiber preferred,” it is also limiting bidders based on
technology. Instead, on your 470 and RFP, ask for Internet Access and
Transport Bundled. If you are asking for a WAN, ask for Transport Only – No ISP Service Included.
Likewise, your 470 or RFP may not be structured to exclude
providers who are eligible to receive funds from the Oklahoma Universal Service
Fund. As such, do not ask for your WAN and Internet to be provided by the same
provider, and do not specify locations of service facilities. Instead, ask
providers to state a service level commitment and uptime commitment in their
response.
Compare & Connect
K-12 is a free online tool from EducationSuperHighway that empowers
school district leaders to get the most bandwidth for their broadband budgets.
With the recent release of the full version of the tool, you can more easily view
and compare bandwidth and broadband pricing information for your own and other school
districts across Oklahoma. Compare & Connect K-12 uses public E-Rate
application data to allow state and school district
leaders to do the following:
- Find out what other school districts are buying to support digital learning
- Compare broadband options in Oklahoma and across the country
- See what service providers are offering to nearby districts
- View a summary of your 2016 E-rate filing
As part of the Oklahoma Connect & Learn
Initiative, OSDE encourages you to use this tool when planning your network
upgrade. For questions, contact Juliann Igo at EducationSuperHighway at juliann@educationsuperhighway.org.
The Oklahoma State Department of
Education (OSDE) has published Draft One of Oklahoma’s Every Student Succeeds
Act (ESSA) Consolidated State Plan framework on the agency’s website. Your
feedback is key to producing a final product that is robust and reflective of
Oklahoma values. Click here to read the draft and provide feedback
in the survey embedded in the document. Please encourage your teachers, support
staff, parents and other stakeholders to participate as well. Thank you!

The Oklahoma Department of
Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS), in partnership with your
local Regional Prevention Coordinator, is conducting a short survey to assess
your awareness of and attitude toward the Oklahoma Prevention Needs Assessment
Survey (OPNA). The OPNA is a statewide survey of 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th
graders that not only provides valuable information on student substance use but also gives insight as to what is causing use.
If your district did not
administer the survey, the ODMHSAS would like to know why. If your district did
administer the survey, we would like your feedback on how to improve the survey
development and implementation process. Respondents do not have to provide any
identifying information when filling out the survey.
Complete
the survey here.
If you have questions, contact
Carrie Daniels, SEOW Coordinator with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health
and Substance Abuse Services, at carrie.daniels@odmhsas.org
or (405) 522-6785.

On December 6,
2016, all school districts that host their own student information systems
(SIS) will need to download a new security certificate and install it on the
district’s SIS server in order to maintain communication with the Wave. This
will need to be completed by December 16, 2016. In most cases, if a
district’s system is hosted by a vendor, no action by the district will be
necessary. If you host your own student information system, please contact
Jennifer Foster, Student Information Data Coordinator, at jennifer.foster@sde.ok.gov in
order to receive the correct certificate to install.
