As of Jan. 1, 2026, state law (SB 1066) requires all physicians to complete medical marijuana education and register with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA) before providing medical marijuana recommendations to OMMA patients and applicants.
To prevent a rejection of your application, please avoid seeking recommendations from physicians who are not registered with OMMA.
What This Means for Your Application
-
Registration is mandatory: Physicians who are not registered with OMMA can no longer legally recommend medical marijuana.
-
Application rejections: OMMA rejects any patient application submitted with a signature from an unregistered physician.
-
Existing recommendations: Recommendations issued on or before Dec. 31, 2025, remain valid for their full 30-day window.
How to Verify Your Physician
OMMA maintains a voluntary Registered Physicians List on our Physicians webpage. If your physician does not appear on this list, you must confirm their OMMA registration status directly with them before obtaining a recommendation. Using an unregistered provider will result in the denial of your license.
