Oklahoma CIO Alex Pettit accepts Oregon CIO position
NOTE: Governor Fallin's quote has been corrected from previous version.
OKLAHOMA CITY — State Chief Information Officer Alex Pettit
has accepted the position of Chief Information Officer for the State of Oregon.
Pettit’s last day with the State of Oklahoma is Jan. 4, 2014.
“My almost four years with Oklahoma have been
some of the most enjoyable of my life, and I hope that the contributions I have
made improved transparency and accountability while reducing the size of government
and improving our services to the citizens of Oklahoma,” Pettit said.
As Oklahoma’s first state CIO, Pettit served in
the Cabinet of two governors and was instrumental in initiating and
leading Oklahoma’s statewide information technology consolidation. He also
oversaw the move to the state’s first secure statewide data center and
development of the first statewide information technology security operations center.
“Oregon has found itself a fine CIO in Alex
Pettit,” said Gov. Mary Fallin. “Oklahoma state government's information technology service was an 8-track player
in an iPad world when Alex came on board, and under his leadership we are shedding that distinction and making tremendous progress to become a national leader in
state government technology services. I thank him for his service to our state
and wish him the best.”
Under state law, the state CIO is a
gubernatorial appointee who leads the Office of Management and Enterprise
Services Information Services Division (OMES-ISD), which provides information technology
services to all state agencies.
“No active state government initiative
matches the size and complexity of IT consolidation, and Alex has embraced that
challenge with professionalism and enthusiasm from the start,” said OMES
Director Preston L. Doerflinger. “We will miss his intellect, vision and
leadership when he departs for Oregon, where I am confident he will
continue to succeed just as he has here in Oklahoma.”
Doerflinger
has named OMES-ISD Chief Operations and Accountability Officer Bo Reese as acting
CIO while a search for a new CIO is conducted.
