SkillSoft CPE for CPAs

Dear SkillSoft Administrators,

I have tried to research to find out if the SkillSoft partnership/alliance with NASBA will allow CPAs who are state employees to receive CPE.  I contacted Michael Mount and am pasting his response as well as the communication I had with Colin with the Oklahoma Accountancy Board regarding CPE.  I hope this can help and if you CPAs who have SkillSoft licenses, please pass this information along to them.  I am also attaching a list that is available in SkillSoft for the NASBA-compliant courses as an Excel file.  The link for SkillSoft accreditation regarding the NASBA partnership is:  http://www.skillsoft.com/about/accreditations/

Again, please share this information with your CPAs who have the SkillSoft licenses. As always, the CPAs will need to follow the rules and guidelines set forth by the OAB for CPE requirements, but SkillSoft does have an accreditation with NASBA.   - Karen Sneary

The coursework would be accepted for credit by the OAB, assuming that it meets the usual CPE requirements….Must maintain or advance professional competence in the field of accounting, etc.

While we do not pre-approve any CPE courses, we will accept self-study courses taken through a NASBA-registered CPE provider.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks

Subject: FW: NASBA Online CPE Question through SkillSoft

Michael,

I have a question that I hope you can help me with regarding the CPE credits and whether they count or not.  I incorrectly contacted the OSCPA and they directed me to OAB.  I contacted Colin and I know he said that CPE courses are not pre-approved.

My question is regarding CPE credits online.  I know that the OSCPA site lists certain courses under the Self-Study and Online CPE page (http://www.oscpa.com/Content/page345.aspx).  My question is since SkillSoft is a partner for NASBA, do the courses that are approved through NASBA via SkillSoft count toward CPE in Oklahoma?

The state has several CPAs that work for the state and I just wanted to follow up and ask so I could give them correct information.  I oversee SkillSoft, the online training program for the state that HCM has contracted with to provide online training for state employees.  SkillSoft is an international corporation and has several partnerships with difference groups.  Their site has a partnership with NASBA and they include a list (attached) of courses approved through NASBA.  I do not want to tell people incorrectly, but if this could help some of the CPAs with some of their CPE, I think that would be an added benefit to them.  I am including the link through SkillSoft that shows their partnership with NASBA.  http://www.skillsoft.com/about/accreditations/  I am also attaching the list of NASBA CPE credits included in the SkillSoft catalog of online training.  Is there some wording you would recommend that I could send out to them if you think that these could potentially count toward some of their CPE credits or should I simply send them to the link that Colin kindly sent me regarding the rules as well as the list of NASBA-approved courses available through SkillSoft?  (http://www.ok.gov/oab_web/documents/2011%20RULES%20FOR%20WEBSITE%20-%20UNOFFICIAL%20updated%209-5-12.pdf)?

Any help or guidance you can provide is greatly appreciated.   My contact information is shown below in my signature line.   Thank you! - Karen

Subject: RE: NASBA Online CPE Question through SkillSoft

Good afternoon Karen,

First, let me go on record as saying the OAB does not pre-approve CPE courses.

With that stated, NASBA sponsored courses count and I cannot see any reason that courses offered via SkillSoft would not count either. These self-study courses all appear to meet the criterion as stated in Subchapter 32 of the Oklahoma Accountancy Code (http://www.ok.gov/oab_web/documents/2011%20RULES%20FOR%20WEBSITE%20-%20UNOFFICIAL%20updated%209-5-12.pdf).

If you need more detailed information on our CPE requirements, although I am happy to assist, you’ll most likely get farther if you follow up with Michael Mount. He is the OAB CPE Coordinator and is much more versed on the detail of the Board’s CPE requirements. He is very helpful and can be reached at 522-3092 or MMount@oab.ok.gov.

I hope this helps,
