Springtime in Oklahoma is here, and with it comes the usual unpredictable weather. Some of you might be dealing with property damage already, so here are some tips to help you out:
- Please report any property damage, even if it does not result in a claim.
- Report a claim by completing and submitting a property loss notice with photo documentation.
- If this is an emergency situation, please take all necessary steps to mitigate any further damage; expenses associated with such precautionary actions can be included as part of a claim.
Damage situations or scenarios that may constitute a need to declare an emergency:
Water damage:
-
Contact a mitigation company listed on the CAP Emergency Projects page. Here, you will find:
- The EMS Registry, which outlines available companies as well as their services and locations.
- The Vendor List, which provides emergency contact details for each company.
Fire damage:
- Refer to the mitigation companies listed on the CAP Emergency Projects page, where you can also refer to the EMS Registry and the Vendor List.
Roof damage:
Please note that significant changes were made to the Risk Management rules on Sept. 11, 2023:
-
Accident reporting:
- Old: Drivers involved in two at-fault accidents within 24 months were declared uninsurable for three months.
- New: This period has been shortened to two at-fault accidents within 12 months, resulting in a three-month uninsurable status.
-
Loss reporting:
- Old: Losses had to be reported immediately to Risk Management.
- New: Losses must be reported within seven days of discovery. Late reporting will result in denial of coverage.
This also applies to vehicles leased from OMES Fleet Management. For more changes, visit the Oklahoma Administrative Code webpage.
