Dear First Responder,

The federal statute, Title IV of the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act of 2012, was created to establish a federal entity called FirstNet. FirstNet’s task is to build a nationwide public safety broadband network dedicated to first responders to resolve jurisdictional and technological barriers.

The State of Oklahoma, along with 49 states and territories, is a recipient of a federal grant funds to produce a plan of engagement with FirstNet. The grant covers the planning effort and educational events for first responders from all aspects of public safety. Public Safety includes but is not limited to:

  • Law enforcement (Sheriff, City Police, State, Federal, Tribal etc.)
  • Medical Emergency (County, city, Regional, State, Tribal etc.)
  • Fire Fighters (County, City, Volunteers, State, Tribal etc.)
  • Emergency Management Workers (County, City, State, Tribal)
  • Utility Workers (Rural, State, Metropolitan etc.)

The Oklahoma Office of Management and Enterprise Services and Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security are jointly conducting a series of outreach summits around the state to increase awareness of the program. The Northeast Awareness Summit (#1) will be held in Owasso, OK, on May 12, 2015. Your agency is invited to participate in the summit location below; a program guide is attached to this letter to provide you with additional information.
