“Oh Baby: Treating Opioid Use Disorder During Pregnancy”

Professional Practice Gaps: (1)Universal screening for all patients. (2) Validated screening tools for substance use during pregnancy.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this session, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to:(1) Discuss epidemiology of opioid use disorder in pregnancy; (2) Discuss screening for opioid use disorder during pregnancy; (3) Discuss consequences of maternal opioid use; (4) Discuss medication management of opioid use disorder in pregnancy; (5) Discuss issues related to labor, delivery and post-partem for women with opioid use disorder.

Professional Practice Gaps: (1) Lack of scientific, systematic organizing theories of the mind. (2) Over-reliance on symptom-likeness for disorder grouping. (3) Lack of generative treatment principles from current diagnostic groupings.

Learning Objectives:  Upon completion of this presentation, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to: (1) Review a brief history of psychiatry in the US which led to the emergence and dominance of the DSM in the psychiatry landscape. (2) Identify how the DSM and the biopsychosocial model are necessary but are not sufficient. (3) Introduce the “Perspectives of Psychiatry”, the system of organizing principles used at Johns Hopkins for the formulation and treatment of psychiatric illness (a.The Disease Perspective, b. The Dimensional Perspective, c. The Behavioral Perspective, d. The Life-Story Perspective). (4) Walk through an example of how each attendee can begin practicing with The Perspectives today.
