Project Update
Background
- Project Cost: $9.3M
- Funding: ACOG and the 2017 bond program
- Scope: wider sidewalks, improved lighting, shade, overall beautification, waterline replacement and pavement resurfacing
- Schedule: approximately 18 months for overall completion
- Construction began January 12, 2026

Harvey to Hudson:
- Harvey has reopened to traffic, while Hudson has closed to traffic
- Conduit, light pole and pedestrian footings are complete
- Ramp, sidewalk and driveway placement completed
4-week Look Ahead Crews will continue work along NW 23rd Street with the following activities:

- Irrigation sleeve installation

Nearby Project - Walker Street Enhancement
The Walker Street Enhancement Project will improve Walker between NW 23rd and NW 32nd, strengthening the connection between the Paseo Arts District and Uptown 23rd.

About the project
The overall goal of this project is to create a safer, more functional corridor for both pedestrians and drivers. To enhance the pedestrian experience, the center median will be removed. Currently, the four blocks with a median have 11 sidewalk trees. After the project, 76 trees will provide shade and protection along the sidewalks between Lee Avenue and Harvey Avenue – a net increase of 29 trees on just those four blocks alone.
The redesigned environment will feature shorter crossing distances, wider sidewalks, improved lighting, shade, and overall beautification for area visitors, with a total of 141 street trees between Western Avenue and Broadway Avenue, including 116 new shade trees and preservation of 25 existing sidewalk trees. In addition, the project includes pavement resurfacing and replacement of an aging waterline between Western Avenue to Lee Avenue.
