Supreme Court Ruling on E-Rate Program header

On June 27, 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Federal Communications Commission, solidifying access to the Universal Service

Fund in a 6-3 vote. This decision affirms the Commission's ability to

leverage federal funding for E-Rate and other crucial programs.

ODL is overjoyed that, as a result, libraries applying for aid can expect the process to continue as scheduled. Providing discounts on high-speed broadband, E-Rate helps locations across our state meet customer needs—

at a time when the importance of online learning and access to job resources keeps growing.

“For nearly three decades, the work of Congress and the Commission in establishing universal-service programs has led to a more fully connected country," writes Justice Elena Kagan on behalf of the voting majority.

Libraries play a key role in bridging the digital divide. They act as connection points for millions of learners and veterans, job-seekers and rural community members. E-Rate facilitates not only internet access but also STEAM activities at the library such as coding and robotics.

We celebrate what this landmark ruling means for the future of affordable connectivity. To learn more, take a look at our website or this press release from the Schools, Health & Libraries Coalition.

IMLS-Funded Tech Grants at Work header

Thanks to critical funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), four libraries are launching exciting projects with ODL technology grants. These projects blend foundational access with cutting-edge innovation, sparking opportunity across Oklahoma.

In Kingfisher, a thriving teen tech program will expand as students build

high-powered computers for use in AI, video editing, and digital design.

Sayre's library will enhance its programming with a new projector and much-needed color printer, making movie nights and eye-catching materials accessible to the community.

Chandler-Watts Memorial Library is reimagining its creative makerspace—from sublimation printers to drawing tablets and embroidery machines, connecting Stratford residents of all ages with hands-on STEAM learning.

Meanwhile, Okeene Public Library is investing in early literacy by replacing outdated AWE Learning Stations in order to give children essential tools for developing reading skills.
