Technology Grants

The Oklahoma Department of Libraries is offering technology grants of up to $5,000 to public libraries. The grants are made possible through funding provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Library Services and Technology Act.
Libraries will need to have a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI), which is available for free at SAM.gov, and be able to complete purchases (with items in hand) by September 30, 2024. These funds cannot be used to pay for any service that extends beyond September 30, 2024.
Priority will be given to rural public libraries. To be eligible, a library must have a legal area population of 25,000 or less and be located at least five miles from an urbanized area, in keeping with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) definitions of small and rural libraries.
This grant's purpose is to update technology to be more than adequate. Innovative ideas will be considered for libraries who already have public computers 5 years old or newer. To find the age of your computer, watch this video.

FAFSA Survey

As a valued partner in supporting education and literacy in our state, the Oklahoma State Department of Education is reaching out to you to request your participation in an important survey.
As you may be aware, Senate Bill 93 (SB93) was recently passed, making FAFSA completion a requirement for high school graduation, starting with the graduating class of 2025. This initiative aims to ensure that every student has the opportunity to access federal financial aid for post-secondary education.
To effectively implement this requirement, they are conducting a survey to assess the institutional capacity of public libraries across the state to provide FAFSA-related resources to high schools. Your input will be vital in understanding the support and resources that libraries can offer to assist high schools in meeting this new graduation requirement and shaping the Oklahoma Department of Education’s strategy for successful implementation of SB93.
We understand the demands on your time, and we truly appreciate your commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for Oklahoma's students. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and valuable contribution to this important effort.

Transforming Teen Services

The YALSA/IMLS Transforming Teen Services project has supported front-line and state-level library staff to reimagine services to teens through the framework of Connected Learning – opportunities for engagement and career exploration through individual and group-driven interest.
Through this model, trainers from both front-line and state-level positions have provided hundreds of hours of professional development to front-line staff serving youth and teens in libraries across the country on the model of connected learning, the value of youth-led programming, and the imperative need to consider educational equity in program design and decision making.
This workshop will introduce the Transforming Teen Services framework for teen services through Connected-Learning experiences and blending ideas and topics from the Transforming Teen Services approach:
-
Understanding developmental stages to better meet the needs of teens
-
Connected Learning and the Pursuit of Educational Equity
-
Facilitating with youth voice and choice in mind - Co-creating experiences in the library
