It's Census Day!

Dear Oklahoma librarians, archivists, authors, booksellers, publishers, and readers everywhere in our Great State:

We're going through a challenge we haven't faced in modern times. We hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy as we ride out this pandemic together. We all have our eyes on a better future, and you can help shape that future today by completing the Census.

For the first time, you can fill out your household's Census form online! It's safe, confidential, and easier than ever. Just go to:

my2020census.gov

The U.S. Constitution mandates a headcount every 10 years of everyone residing in the 50 states and all territories of the United States. This includes people of all ages, races, ethnic groups, citizens, and noncitizens. Most importantly, Census information helps decision makers know how your community is changing. Hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding will be distributed to communities each year to support education, health care, public safety, disaster assistance, and school lunch programs. Oklahoma stands to lose more than $17,000 over the next ten years for every person not counted.

The Census also determines the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives. It also helps states, counties, and municipalities redraw their legislative and school districts.

If you have questions, visit the U.S. Census Bureau's Help and FAQs page. You can also see what the Census Questionnaire looks like here.

Better days are ahead. Let's make sure Oklahoma gets its fair share. Let's help shape our future.
