Easter Egg Hunt
Visit the Will Rogers Memorial Museum for the Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19.
The egg hunt begins promptly at 11:30 a.m. on the museum grounds, so be sure to arrive early.
The Easter Bunny will hide thousands of candy-filled eggs for the children to find, and some eggs will contain special prizes. Please call 918-341-0719 for more information.

On Saturday, April 19, the Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the local Pawnee Lions Club and the Pawnee Chamber of Commerce.
The hunt will begin promptly at 10 a.m. at the ranch’s picnic pavilions. The egg hunt is spread out over many acres of the historic site. Thousands of eggs will be hidden, including gold and silver prize eggs containing money and vouchers for treats!

NATIVE PLANT AND SEED EXCHANGE
"Something to Grow About:" Earth Day activities

The Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum will host a seed swap along with other family-friendly activities on Saturday, April 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to celebrate Earth Day on April 22. “Something to Grow About” will feature a native plant/seed exchange, interactive gardening workshops, and more.
Guests can bring labeled seeds and plants for the swap. They will learn about and take home native pollinator plants and seeds. Other workshops and demonstrations will teach attendees about planting, composting, recycling, soil, water, insects, and birds. There will also be hands-on activities for kids.
The Pawnee Farmers Market and local food trucks will be set up by the picnic area. Guests are also welcome to bring their own picnic lunch and use the facilities on the property.

On Easter Sunday—April 20, the Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum will host its annual nondenominational Sunrise Service. The service will begin at approximately 7 a.m. on Blue Hawk Peak, the highest point on the ranch grounds. The Pawnee Ministerial Alliance leads the service and is a community-wide tradition. Participants are asked to bring their own seating and dress appropriately for the outdoors. |

HISTORY IS OUR BREAD AND BUTTER
Spring Bake Day at Fort Gibson

The aroma of freshly baked bread will fill the Fort Gibson Historic Site once again. The site’s annual spring bake day is scheduled for Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Staff members will operate the oven throughout the day, with fresh loaves of bread available around noon and at 3:30 p.m.
Twice each year, OHS staff act as historical reenactors and bake bread in Fort Gibson’s original wood-fired oven from 1863. Spring Bake Day is an educational event that allows the public to experience one aspect of army life that occurred during and after the Civil War.

Cast Iron Cooking at The Chisholm

The Chisholm in Kingfisher will host a Cast-Iron Cooking class on Saturday, April 26, from noon to 5 p.m. In this casual, fun class, participants will learn to care for and cook in cast-iron cookware, create a Dutch oven delight, and participate in a group meal. The class will explore historical and modern recipes while learning backyard cooking skills.
All materials needed for the class will be provided. Preregistration is required, and payment must be received to secure a spot. Registration is limited to 30. Please contact the museum at (405) 375-5176 to reserve your place.

“Ice Cream Social” Kilgen Theatre Organ performance
On Monday, April 28, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., a Kilgen Theatre Organ performance will be held in the Devon Great Hall at the Oklahoma History Center. Organist Seamus Gethicker will perform several classic springtime musical numbers to enhance the theme, “Ice Cream Social.” Ice cream will be served before the performance, so early arrival is recommended.
Tickets are $10 for Oklahoma Historical Society members and $20 for the general public. They can be purchased online or by calling 405-522-0765.

Movie Night featuring The Wizard of Oz (1939)
Will Rogers Memorial Museum in Claremore will show the movie The Wizard of Oz (1939) at the Will Rogers Memorial Museum in Claremore on Friday, April 25. The doors to the theatre open at 6:30 p.m., and the movie begins at 7 p.m.
Guests can enjoy free admission, popcorn, and drinks while watching the film. Seating is limited, so early arrival is suggested. Thanks to the sponsorship of the Bank of Commerce, this event is FREE to attend. Please call 918-341-0719 for more information.

Lunch and Learn: “Register, Research, and Resources: The 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing” free webinar
The State Historic Preservation Office will hold a free Lunch and Learn webinar on Tuesday, April 15, at noon, focused on the 30th anniversary of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The building, located in downtown Oklahoma City was bombed on April 19, 1995 at 9:02 a.m.
Laura Martin, Deputy Director of the Oklahoma Historical Society’s Research Center, will discuss items in their collection pertaining to the Murrah Building, the bombing, and collection items. Lynda Ozan, Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer, will discuss the memorial’s designation on the National Register of Historic Places. This webinar is free to the public, but registration is required.

The State Historic Preservation Office will hold a free Lunch and Learn webinar on Tuesday, April 22, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. when Rev. Dr. Rochelle A. (Shelly) Stackhouse, with the Partners for Sacred Places, will discuss the adaptive reuse of sacred buildings.
This webinar is free to the public, but registration is required.

Jason Sperb wins the #ExploreOHS contest
Congratulations to Jason Sperb of Stillwater who is the winner of our 2025 #ExploreOHS Travel Contest! He crafted an amazing itinerary and visited all 23 OHS sites that were open during the month of March. Jason also captured some fantastic photos at our sites and events. As his prize, Sperb has opted to name a baby bison at the Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum when the first heifer calf is born in the coming weeks. Her name will be Melina. Join us in congratulating him!
