Wreath-laying ceremony and flyover
On Friday, August 9, at noon, the Will Rogers Memorial Museum in Claremore will host a wreath-laying ceremony and flyover to mark the anniversary of the August 15, 1935, death of Will Rogers and Wiley Post in an Alaskan plane crash. The public is welcome to join the family as they place the wreath at the tomb in the shadow of the statue of Will and his horse Soapsuds riding into the sunset, followed by a flyover by pilot Tom Egbert, a Will Rogers Memorial Museum roper docent.

Will Rogers and Wiley Post Fly-In
See beautifully restored vintage airplanes, classic cars and more at the Will Rogers & Wiley Post Fly-In on Saturday, August 10! It is one of the largest fly-in events in Oklahoma taking place this year from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch in Oologah. The Will Rogers Memorial Museum (WRMM) will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the day of the Fly-In. The expansive museum houses the largest collection of Will Rogers memorabilia in the world and all of his writings. The WRMM has twelve galleries, theater, library, gift shop, and a children's museum.

Teacher Resource Social with Oklahoma Museums Association and Friends

The 2024 Teacher Resource Social will be held at the First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, August 6, from 2 to 6:30 p.m.
The Teacher Resource Social, formerly known as the Back to School Bash, is an annual resource fair that brings museums and other organizations together to offer resources for teachers to plan for the upcoming school year.
This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Museums are encouraged to invite their teacher contacts.

In the month of August 2024, OHS Family memberships will be available for $50 instead of $75. This offer is only valid online only, memberships must be purchased through the Oklahoma History Center Museum Store website. Travis Kidd appearing at The Chisholm
On Thursday, August 15 The Chisholm will host its last concert in the Summer Sounds Concert series with singer/songwriter Travis Kidd. Plan to come early and enjoy dinner from a featured food truck beginning at 6 p.m., spread out your favorite blanket, set up a comfy lawn chair, and enjoy live music from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Horizon Hill, the home of territorial governor A. CALLING ALL MUSICIANS!

On the last Saturday of August, September, and October, from 1 to 3 p.m., The Chisholm will present a series of jam sessions in the parlor room of Horizon Hill, the home of Territorial Governor A. J. Seay. Each session will start with a performance by Wayne Cantwell, “the Flyin’ Fiddler,” (pictured above) with an old-time jam session to follow. Musicians of all levels are encouraged to join this great learning opportunity, where they can sit and play alongside seasoned performers! For more information, contact the museum at 405-375-5176.

A $50 booth fee will apply for groups wishing to sell products at the festival.
