Quench your thirst the 19th-century way!
Farmer Dave at Hunter’s Home has a new instructional video with a step-by-step recipe for a refreshing drink called “switchel.” It was commonly made during hot summer months in the 19th century. The crisp, rehydrating mixture is rich in electrolytes, which can be lost by working outside in the heat. It calls for simple ingredients—a gallon of water, fresh ginger, lemon, and sorghum.
Subscribe to the Hunter’s Home YouTube channel for informative videos. Recent videos teach foodways of the working farm, how to plant and maintain a garden, and ideas for several history-centered craft projects.
