Taking listeners on flight path into Oklahoma's aviation history
Every August 15, Oklahomans fondly remember the lives of the beloved humorist, humanitarian, and actor Will Rogers and the record-setting, fearless aviator Wiley Post who lost their lives in an Alaskan plane crash on that date in 1935.
A Very OK Podcast (AVOP, or Alpha–Victor–Oscar–Papa to all you pilots out there) has a new episode that explores the robust aviation history of Oklahoma. The conversation takes off with copilots Trait Thompson and Bob Blackburn as they discuss their favorite aviation trivia. The discussion keeps flying with notable Oklahomans such as Wiley Post, James Banning, and the Cessna brothers who left their marks in the history books. They also catch up to speed with Randy Vierling, a longtime TWA pilot, who tells the story of a harrowing experience he had while piloting an airplane through a storm early in his career. From the heroic deeds of early pilots to the major contributions of companies like Braniff Airlines to the state, this episode will guide listeners to a happy landing.
Listen to new episodes of AVOP each month on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon music, and Google podcasts. Missed it the first time?—hit the afterburners and listen in to the AVOP archives.
