December 2025

Quick tips graphic

December is when colds and flu strike hardest. To stay healthy, here are three tips to work into your daily routine. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night to boost immunity. Get 15-20 minutes of midday natural light to help your vitamin D levels. And take a brisk walk daily to improve circulation. And it’s not too late to get your annual flu shot. SoonerCare members 18 and younger can get their shots from Vaccines for Children providers. Adult members can get their shorts at most pharmacies or health care clinics.

Update Your Information

Changes to SoonerCare eligibility are coming in 2026. It is important to make sure your information is up to date. Members who are eligible for coverage but do not have their information up to date could lose their benefits. It is very important to make sure OHCA has the right address for you. That way we can reach you with important information about your SoonerCare benefits. You can update your account at MySoonerCare.org.

Quitting tobacco is one of the best choices you can make for your health. Your body starts healing almost immediately. The benefits keep growing the longer you stay smoke-free. Here's what happens after you've had your last cigarette.

  • 20 minutes: Blood pressure and pulse rate drop; body temperature rises toward normal.
  • 12 hours: Carbon monoxide and oxygen levels become normal.
  • 2 weeks to 3 months: Breathing and walking become easier; risk of heart attack decreases.
  • 1 to 9 months: Less coughing and shortness of breath; more energy.
  • 1 year: Risk of heart disease is cut in half.
  • 5 to 15 years: Risk of stroke is lowered to that of a non-smoker.
  • 10 years: Risk of lung cancer drops to half that of continuing smokers. Risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, bladder, kidney and pancreas decreases.
  • 15 years: Risk of heart disease and death is nearly the same as people who have never smoked.

The holidays are here, and that usually means spending time with family and friends. As you get together, you may notice changes in your loved ones’ health or mobility. Are they having difficulty getting out of a chair, off the sofa or moving around? Is their independence not what it used to be? If so, they may benefit from durable medical equipment. It includes things like a walker, wheelchair or shower chair. Oklahoma ABLE Tech’s Device Reutilization Program offers this equipment at no cost to all Oklahomans. If you think someone in your life could benefit, now is a great time to explore what’s available. These tools can make a big difference in increasing independence.

SoonerCare covers dozens of prenatal vitamins at no cost for female members of childbearing age. These do not count toward your monthly prescription total. Here are some of the most important vitamins during and after your pregnancy:

  • 1-3 months: Folic acid, choline and vitamins A, C, B6 and B12
  • 4-6 months: Iron and vitamins A and C
  • 7-9 months: Calcium, DHA, iron and vitamins A, C, D, and B12
  • After birth: Folic acid, calcium, DHA, choline and vitamins A, D, B6, and B12

Prenatal vitamins prevent birth defects, especially in the brain and spinal cord. They build strong bones, teeth, eyes and skin. They help your baby’s developing blood cells. They may even help you have less morning sickness and more energy.
