SoonerCare Member Memo

November 2023

SoonerSelect Dental Enrollment Opens Dec. 1

Most SoonerCare members will get their health care services covered in a new way next year – through health and dental plans. If you’re an eligible SoonerCare member moving to SoonerSelect, the open enrollment period for SoonerSelect Dental starts on Dec. 1, 2023. You will be receiving a letter in the mail with more information.

You will be asked to pick one dental plan by Jan. 10, 2024. If you do not pick a plan, the Oklahoma Health Care Authority will pick one for you.

If you have a dentist you want to keep, you should pick a plan that has your dentist in the plan’s network. You will be able to access each plan’s provider directory on the SoonerSelect web page.

You can view the plans and compare benefits at MySoonerCare.org. Then, pick a plan that fits. You’ll get the same health care services offered by SoonerCare, but some plans may offer extra benefits to help you improve your health.

If you have questions or need help picking your plan, call the SoonerCare helpline at 800-987-7767 to talk to plan choice counselors.

Update Your Information

SoonerCare eligibility reviews are continuing. It is important to make sure your information is up to date. Members who are still eligible for coverage but do not have their information up to date could lose their benefits. Please confirm your information and documentation as soon as possible. Some items you may need to update include:

  • Household income
  • Contact information (address, email address, phone number, etc.)
  • Number of people living in your household
  • Social Security number(s)
  • Missing documents

It is very important to make sure OHCA has the right address for you. That way we can reach you with important information about your SoonerCare benefits. If you receive a letter, email or text message from OHCA saying we are missing information, please respond immediately. You can update your account at MySoonerCare.org.

When you update your email address, consider receiving electronic updates and letters. This will help with the nationwide paper and envelope shortage.

Are you currently pregnant and on SoonerCare?
You could earn up to $580 by participating in a research study about smoking habits. To be eligible, you must be a SoonerCare member at least 18 years of age and be no more than 25 weeks pregnant. Participants must be willing to stop smoking cannabis and other combustible tobacco products during the study. Participants must be able to speak and understand English.

Once enrolled, SoonerCare members will complete six (6) paid surveys over 6 to 10 months. They will get coaching calls and may receive nicotine replacement therapy. They may also get incentives for completing parts of treatment and for quitting smoking. Contact the Helpline at 1-800-QUIT-NOW. Enroll in the multiple call program to see if you qualify for the study.

Check Your Children's Eligibility

OHCA asks all Oklahoma parents affected by SoonerCare renewals to check their children’s SoonerCare status. Even if your coverage has ended, your children could still be eligible. Some coverage could have ended due to a procedural denial. This can include not turning in documents or not completing the renewal process. But they may still be eligible for SoonerCare.

If members have lost eligibility and are reapproved within 90 days of the last day of coverage, OHCA will backdate coverage so there is no gap in care. Log in to MySoonerCare.org or call the SoonerCare helpline at 800-987-7767 to make sure your information is up to date.

November is All About Healthy Lungs!

Did you know November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month? It’s a special time to think about your lungs and remember that early detection saves lives.

Lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer deaths in America. But there is good news! With the low-dose lung cancer scan, there is a 63% chance of getting and staying well for many years, according to the American Lung Association. This check-up is important because sometimes you may not feel sick until the cancer has been a long time.

If you’re wondering if this check-up is for you, see if you may be eligible for lung cancer screening. If you think you meet the criteria or are unsure, talk to your SoonerCare provider. They can help you schedule this life-saving scan. Remember, SoonerCare is here to help by offering this benefit to qualifying SoonerCare members.

Have You Eaten a Carrot Lately?

Adding a carrot to your diet on a regular basis can be like taking medicine. It will increase the amount of fiber, which in turn helps lower bad cholesterol. Carrots also provide vitamin A and anti-cancer properties.

Find out if you qualify for SoonerCare’s nutrition counseling benefit. Ask your doctor for a referral and get advice from a nutrition expert on how to power-up your meals with fiber.

Hepatitis C Drug Coverage

SoonerCare’s preferred drug used to treat hepatitis C is MAVYRET®. It is available without prior authorization but does count toward your monthly prescription limit. If you are already taking a different hepatitis C drug, you can keep taking your current medication.

MAVYRET treats most types of hepatitis, usually in 8 weeks. Some people may need 12 to 16 weeks of treatment. Talk to your doctor to see if you are at risk of getting hepatitis C. They can help you decide if you need to be tested and if you need to be treated with MAVYRET. If you are treated with MAVYRET or another hepatitis C drug, it is very important to remember to take it every day. Doses must not be skipped and the full course of treatment must be completed.

If you have questions about a drug’s coverage or other drug benefit questions, call the SoonerCare Pharmacy Help Desk at 405-522-6205, option 4, or toll-free 800-522-0114, option 4.

Have You Received a Member Survey?

OHCA has been sending surveys to a sample of SoonerCare members. We are working to make your member experience the best it can be. If you get a survey, use the provided link or phone number to take the survey. The survey is available in English and Spanish and takes just a few minutes to complete.

Durable Medical Equipment

Able Tech logo

Make room for the turkey! Do you have gently used durable medical equipment that you're no longer using? Please return it or donate it to Oklahoma ABLE Tech's Device Reutilization Program. This program is 100% based on donations. Which means without community contributions, there is not a big inventory.

Our greatest needs are blood pressure monitors, grab bars, lift chairs and manual wheelchairs.

ABLE Tech staff gets donated equipment and sanitizes and refurbishes the devices. They work with vendors to repair the equipment as needed. Then they reassign the DME devices to the best-matched Oklahoman. Any Oklahoman who needs the equipment or devices is eligible, regardless of income. Priority goes to SoonerCare members.

Complete the online device donation form to schedule a drop-off or pick-up.

Requesting a Call Back from SoonerCare?

For SoonerCare to fulfill your request, please make sure spam blocking is turned off on your phone. Sometimes when we return a call, it can show up as spam. Our phone number may also come up as a Colorado or Florida number on your caller ID.
