SoonerCare Member Memo

August 2023

Update Your Information

SoonerCare eligibility reviews are continuing. It is important to make sure your information is up to date. Members who are still eligible for coverage but do not have their information up to date could lose their benefits. Please confirm your information and documentation as soon as possible. Some items you may need to update include:

  • Household income
  • Contact information (address, email address, phone number, etc.)
  • Number of people living in your household
  • Social Security number(s)
  • Missing documents

It is very important to make sure OHCA has the right address for you. That way we can reach you with important information about your SoonerCare benefits. If you receive a letter or email from OHCA saying we are missing information from you, please respond right away. You can update your account at MySoonerCare.org.

When you update your email address, consider choosing to receive electronic updates and letters. This will help with the nationwide paper and envelope shortage.

Check Your Children's Eligibility

OHCA asks all Oklahoma parents affected by SoonerCare renewals to check their children’s SoonerCare status. Even if your coverage has ended, your children could still be eligible. Some coverage could have ended due to a procedural denial. This can include not turning in documents or not completing the renewal process. But they may still be eligible for SoonerCare.

If members have lost eligibility and are reapproved within 90 days of the last day of coverage, OHCA will backdate coverage. This will ensure there is no gap in care.

Log into MySoonerCare.org or call the SoonerCare helpline at 800-987-7767 to make sure your information is up to date.

Does Your Child Need a Sports Physical?

Many parents think a sports physical and a well-child checkup are the same, but they are different.

A well-child checkup includes the exam required for a sports physical, plus much more. It offers information like health history, growth measurements and blood pressure. Plus, there are screenings for development and behavior.

The best part? A well-child checkup and a sports physical can be done in just one visit!

Call your child’s doctor today to schedule a checkup. And don’t forget to bring the required sports medical forms to your child’s appointment.

Breathe Better, Age Better

September marks the celebration of Healthy Aging Month. It's a perfect time to focus on better health practices as we age.

One important aspect to consider is lung health. Did you know 90% of all lung cancer deaths are tied to smoking? This shows the importance of early detection through yearly low-dose lung screenings.

So, this September, let’s commit to better lung health and a healthier aging process. SoonerCare offers low-dose lung cancer screenings for qualifying members. View the flyer and ask your doctor if you qualify. And begin working towards healthier aging today.

Free Flu Vaccines

Flu vaccines are available to SoonerCare members ages 19 years and older. They're available through both the prescription drug and medical benefits. Flu vaccines given by pharmacies don't count against the monthly prescription limit. There is no copay. Members ages 18 years and younger must receive the flu vaccine through a federal Vaccines for Children program provider.

Aspirin for the Prevention of Preeclampsia

Preeclampsia is a complication of pregnancy. It is a high blood pressure disorder that can occur after the 20th week of pregnancy. In addition to high blood pressure, it can cause organs like the kidneys and liver to not work normally.

Most women with preeclampsia have healthy babies. But if it's not treated, it can cause severe health problems for the mom and baby.

SoonerCare offers coverage of over-the-counter low-dose aspirin without a prior authorization. It is for pregnant members who are at high risk for preeclampsia. Anyone with one or more moderate risk factors should be on low-dose aspirin.

A prescription is needed for coverage. The aspirin will count toward your monthly prescription limit. Prescriptions may be filled for up to 100 tablets, a 100-day supply. If you are pregnant or thinking about getting pregnant, talk to your doctor to see if low-dose aspirin is right for you.

Healthy Choices, Healthy Lives

Making healthy choices today can lead to a healthier and happy life for you and your baby. It’s very important for pregnant women to quit smoking and stay smoke-free.

As many as 50-60% of women return to smoking after giving birth. Smoking during pregnancy brings big risks to both the mother and the unborn child. These can include sudden infant death syndrome, low birth weight and birth defects.

Are you thinking about having a baby or are you currently pregnant? Take advantage of SoonerCare’s 12-month post-birth coverage. It includes many benefits, like full tobacco cessation. To find even more benefits for you and your baby, visit our pregnancy services page.

How to Treat Head Lice

Just hearing the words are enough to make you start scratching your head! There’s no real season for head lice. But there are more cases when kids go back to school each fall. Thankfully, it’s really easy to treat head lice.

SoonerCare covers several treatment options, and all of them need a prescription:

  • Members 20 years of age and younger: over-the-counter lice treatments
  • Members of all ages: brand name Natroba™ (spinosad)

Other prescription lice treatments for children and adults need prior authorization.

The country’s top pediatricians and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have helpful lice guidelines. You can learn how to spot, treat and prevent the spread of lice. Lots of people get lice, and it’s nothing to be embarrassed about. With the tips in the links, you’ll be ready if it happens to you or your family!

If you have questions about lice treatment coverage, call the pharmacy help desk at 405-522-6205, option 4. Or call toll-free 800-522-0114, option 4.
