SoonerCare Member Memo

April 2023

Eligibility Reviews Have Restarted

SoonerCare has restarted eligibility reviews for all members. If you received a purple letter, it is important you respond to all requested information from SoonerCare. The letter has information on how to find new health care coverage. This flyer may also be helpful. You can view it in English or Spanish.

Ineligible members will be disenrolled from SoonerCare over a nine-month period. If you are ineligible, you were mailed a letter with your coverage end date. You will also receive a letter 45 days before your end date, and a last letter 10 days before your coverage ends.

Oklahoma Human Services will disenroll ineligible members who enrolled through Human Services over a period of 12 months. This will only affect members who are no longer eligible to receive SoonerCare coverage.

It is very important to make sure SoonerCare has the right mailing address, email address and phone number for you, so we can reach you with important information about your SoonerCare benefits. If you receive a letter or email from the Oklahoma Health Care Authority saying there is missing information from you, please respond right away by updating your account at MySoonerCare.org or call the SoonerCare Helpline at 800-987-7767.

Here's Help to Keep Your A1c in Check

Plate of healthy food

Did you know OHCA offers a covered benefit for diabetes self-management education and support services? That means if you are struggling to keep your A1c level in the normal range, help is available. (A1c is a measure of your average blood levels over the past 3 months.) See if you qualify to receive these services — they can change your life for the better!

When you take advantage of the diabetes support services, you get 10 hours of free training in the first year. Then get 2 hours each year after. You'll learn how to better manage your diabetes, get more active and eat better. Using these tips, most people live healthier lives. They have fewer hospital visits and a lower risk of kidney, nerve and eye damage.

Ask your doctor to contact a covered diabetes self-management education and support services program. They can help you get a 90-day supply of your maintenance medications for diabetes. You may also be eligible for a continuous glucose monitor. Use the many tools SoonerCare has to help you live better with diabetes!

Have You Received a Member Survey?

OHCA has been sending surveys to a sample of SoonerCare members. We are working to improve your member experience and make it the best it can be. If you get a survey, there is a link and phone number that lets you take the survey either online or by phone. The survey is available in English and in Spanish and takes just a few minutes to complete.

Breathe Easier in a Smoke-Free Setting

Half an hour of secondhand smoke can cause heart damage to a nonsmoker like that of a daily smoker. Having a tobacco-free environment will help you breathe easier. If you need help creating a smoke-free space, SoonerQuit has benefits for members to help with tobacco cessation!

Hepatitis C Drug Coverage

SoonerCare’s preferred drug used to treat hepatitis C is MAVYRET®. It is available without prior authorization but does count toward your monthly prescription limit. If you are already taking a different hepatitis C drug, you can keep taking your current drug.

MAVYRET treats most types of hepatitis. Talk to your doctor to see if you are at risk of getting hepatitis C. They can help you decide if you need to be tested and if you need to be treated with MAVYRET. If you are treated with MAVYRET or another hepatitis C drug, it is very important to remember to take it every day. Doses must not be skipped.

If you have questions about a drug’s coverage or other drug benefit questions, call the SoonerCare Pharmacy Help Desk at 405-522-6205, option 4, or toll-free 800-522-0114, option 4.

Free Lung Cancer Screening

SoonerCare offers a free low-dose lung cancer screening to members who qualify. Are you between 50 and 80? Are you a current of former smoker? Do you or did you smoke at least a pack a day? Contact the SoonerQuit Team at SoonerQuit@okhca.org or contact your provider today to ask about this life-saving scan!

Medical Equipment Drive

Oklahoma ABLE Tech proudly partners with OHCA to provide the Device Reutilization Program! Thanks to this partnership, thousands of Oklahomans have received needed durable medical equipment at no cost.

To support this program, a donation drive is being held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., May 19, at the Southeast Expo Center in McAlester. Oklahoma ABLE Tech will be accepting gently used durable medical equipment that’s ready for a new home, and they will retrieve, refurbish, repair and reassign equipment to Oklahomans in need. The event is sponsored by the Kiamichi Economic Development District of Oklahoma Area Agency on Aging. For more ways to donate, visit ABLE Tech's Device Reutilization donate webpage!
