PCPs Can Apply Fluoride Varnish to Children 5 and Under

Applying fluoride varnish to a child's teeth can help improve oral health and prevent tooth decay. Primary care physicians (PCP) are able to apply fluoride varnish to children up to 5 years old, meaning you don't have to wait for their next visit to the dentist.

If your child is 5 years old or younger, talk to their PCP about applying fluoride varnish during their next visit.

Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support

If you have diabetes, OHCA is here to help you with free diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES). When you start DSMES, you can get 10 hours of free training during the first year. After that, you can get two hours each year. Some of the training is one-on-one, and some is in groups.

You will learn how to better manage your diabetes, get more active and eat better. After DSMES training, most people live healthier lives and have less hospital visits and a lower risk of kidney, nerve and eye damage.

To get started, ask your provider to contact a covered DSMES program. It is also a good idea to ask your provider about getting a 90-day supply of your maintenance drugs for diabetes . You may also be eligible for a continuous glucose monitor. SoonerCare has many tools to help you live better with diabetes! If you want to learn more about DSMES, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a great place to start.

Through With Chew Week - Quit Smokeless Tobacco

Smokeless Tobacco

Smokeless tobacco contains significantly more nicotine than cigarettes. In fact, one can of dip is equal to about four packs of cigarettes. Think about quitting during Through With Chew Week – February 21-27.

If you are interested in quitting tobacco, SoonerCare covers all FDA approved medications to help you quit. These medications do not count against the six-prescription limit per month. Click here to learn more.
