You Could Be at Risk of Losing Your SoonerCare Coverage

During the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE), the Oklahoma Health Care Authority did not end SoonerCare coverage for members, even if they did not update their account or submit missing paperwork.

The PHE is currently scheduled to end March 31, 2022. If you have not kept your account current, your SoonerCare coverage will end when the PHE ends. But we want to help you stay covered.

Please log in to update your account and turn in any missing documents. We also encourage you to take time to think about your health care needs and make a plan in case your SoonerCare coverage ends.

Click here to log into your account or call the SoonerCare helpline at 800-987-7767 Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What You Need to Know About Heartburn

The holidays are here! But sometimes the food we eat around this time of year can lead to heartburn. According to recent studies, almost all of us have heartburn at one time or another. However, about 1 in 5 people have something more serious, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This means heartburn that happens several times a week.

GERD and heartburn are both made worse by the foods we eat. Foods that are spicy, salty, fried, or fatty can cause problems. Carbonated drinks, alcohol or caffeine should also be avoided. Smoking can worsen heartburn as well. One more reason to stop smoking!

If you have heartburn, medication may help. SoonerCare covers several heartburn/GERD medications as part of the 90-day Maintenance Drug List (see anti-ulcer medications list). Some people take these medications temporarily, and others take them for longer. If you’ve taken any of these medications for more than eight weeks, talk to your health care provider. They can help you decide if it’s better to continue or think about cutting back.

It can be hard to tell the difference between heartburn and a heart attack. If you have any of these additional symptoms, get medical care immediately:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Sweating
  • Pain in your arm, neck, or jaw
  • Unusual fatigue
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Lightheadedness
  • Dizziness
  • Anxiety

If you have questions about your medication coverage, call the pharmacy help desk at 405-522-6205, option 4, or toll-free 800-522-0114, option 4.
