The US Dept. of Health and Human Services has extended the public health emergency through April 21, 2021. The public health emergency renewal can be found here.
What does this mean for SoonerCare members?
- Expanded use of telehealth services through April 30, 2021 for most SoonerCare services.
- OHCA and DHS will not terminate SoonerCare coverage for members during this time.
- No cost sharing for testing or treatment of COVID-19 for SoonerCare members.
- Some medicines may be prescribed for 90 days to reduce trips to the pharmacy.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Health Resources and Services Administration, is issuing new reporting requirements and announced it will be amending the reporting timeline for the Provider Relief Fund Program due to the recent passage of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act.
These reporting requirements will apply to providers who received the Medicaid PRF funds. Additionally, PRF recipients may begin registering for gateway access to the reporting portal where they will submit their information in compliance with the new reporting requirements HHS is issuing.

- New Dental Codes
- D1355 Caries Preventive Medicament Application: For primary prevention or remineralization. Medicaments applied do not include topical fluorides.
- D7961 Buccal/Labial Frenectomy (frenulectomy) and D7962 Lingual Frenectomy (frenulectomy): These codes replace the previous code D7960.

Register for OHCA's webinar: ADA Dental Claim Submission. This webinar will be presented Thursday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. and will provide an in-depth look at the electronic ADA dental claims submission on the secure provider portal. Attendees will learn more about the policy and procedures of submitting Medicaid primary and Medicaid secondary claims. General coding for services will not be addressed in this presentation. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
- New HCA-17 Special Claims Process
- Effective Jan. 1, 2021, special claims must be submitted using the provider portal HCA-17A function. The training PowerPoint can be found on the provider training page of our public website and the recorded webinar training will be added at a future date.

Practice the 5 A’s

Ask About Tobacco Use: Use a non-judgmental voice to ask about current or past tobacco use while taking vitals.

Advise Quitting: Be clear but sensitive. Let them know about FREE services provided by the Oklahoma tobacco helpline.

Assess Interest in Quitting: On a scale of 1-10, assess how ready your patients are to quit. Patients who are reluctant should still receive non-judgmental advice.

Assist With Quitting: Work with patients to establish a quit plan and set a quit date. Talk about the free support on the helpline.

Arrange Follow-up: During their first few weeks of quitting, follow up with them. Praise their successes and compliment their progress.

Oklahoma tobacco helpline benefits include quit coaching, 24/7 support and at least a two-week FREE supply of patches, gum or lozenges. Since 2003, the helpline has helped more than 450,000 Oklahomans. Your patients could be next!
FREE Promotional Materials
The helpline also has resources for health care providers. Visit OKhelpline.com to order free promotional materials for your office. Brochures, pens, posters, tip cards and more are available.
