2024 Elections: Contribution Limit Change
2024 Candidate Committees Only
During its February meeting, the Ethics Commission voted to increase the individual contribution limit that applies to candidates seeking office in the 2024 election cycle. The individual contribution limit that applies to candidate committees is set in Ethics Rule 2.37 and that limit has been raised from $2,900 to $3,300 for the 2024 election cycle. The Ethics Rules require the Commission to review the limits in odd numbered years and adjust for inflation as needed using the Consumer Price Index. This does not affect contribution limits for any other committee or any other election.

How Does This Affect Other Candidate Committees?
The individual contribution limits for the 2018, 2020, and 2022 candidate committees remain the same. See chart below. When candidate committees contribute to other candidate committees--contribution limits apply to both the giving and receiving committees. When the giving and receiving candidate committees were formed for different election years, they may be subject to different contribution limits. The lesser contribution limit of the two will be the contribution limit that applies.
NOTE: A candidate committee may make a contribution to another candidate committee so long as both the giving and receiving committees are at the same level of elective office. For instance, a state candidate committee may provide a contribution to another state candidate committee, but not a county, municipal, or school board candidate committee. Rule 2.37(F).
Example: Candidate committee A is a 2022 candidate committee subject to a $2,900 limit. Candidate committee B is a 2024 candidate committee subject to a $3,300 contribution limit. If candidate committee A gives a contribution to candidate committee B, then it is limited to giving a maximum of $2,900 for the entire campaign.
