FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Translation Services for Unemployment Claims Available at No Cost at Workforce Oklahoma
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (July 17, 2012) – The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission (OESC) is reminding Oklahomans to be wary of scams aimed at those who receive unemployment benefits. OESC has received reports from western Oklahoma of Spanish-speaking customers who were offered fee-based translation services for use in filing their unemployment benefit claims. Translation into Spanish and many other languages is already available to customers at no cost through the agency’s call center and Workforce Oklahoma locations.
“OESC is committed to helping Oklahomans file for unemployment benefits and access other workforce services in a quick, safe and secure way,” said Richard McPherson, OESC Executive Director. “Through online filing, unemployment call centers and Workforce Oklahoma locations across the state, our customers can do just that free of charge.”
OESC is a major partner in Workforce Oklahoma. Workforce Oklahoma centers are located across the state and provide a variety of services for free, such as assistance with job placement, job searches, skill upgrading, resumes, training providers and career navigation. In-person help with unemployment claims is also available at select Workforce Oklahoma centers. All services are available at no cost to customers. “When every dollar counts, the last thing you want to do is spend money when there’s no need,” continued McPherson. “We encourage customers to contact Workforce Oklahoma if they have any questions about services we offer and help we can provide at no cost.”
It’s important to note that claimants must be able to clearly communicate the language for which they need translation in order for Workforce Oklahoma to provide that service.
To contact the nearest Workforce Oklahoma center, call toll-free (888) 980-9675. To file an unemployment claim through OESC, call (405) 525-1500 in the Oklahoma City area or (800) 555-1554 from all other areas. Claims can also be filed online at www.unemployment.ok.gov.
