Resources available for a limited time

Thousands of Oklahomans have permanently or temporarily lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether you plan to return to your former employer or not, being laid off is extremely stressful, especially when the usual education, training, and job search options may not be available to you.

That is why the Governor’s Council for Workforce and Economic Development and the Oklahoma Office of Workforce Development are giving you the opportunity to get FREE certifications, credentials and skills training to help you get back to work. Whether you plan to return to your former employer or are looking to change careers, there are options for you.

CompTIA Mentored Learning Program

Oklahomans who lost their job due to COVID-19 have the opportunity to enroll in free training to obtain CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications. As a part of this program, you will also receive job placement support to help you re-enter the workforce in an in-demand job. CompTIA A+ is the industry standard for launching IT careers in today’s digital world. IT pros who hold CompTIA A+ make, on average, $51,375. Job roles include Service Desk Analyst, Help Desk tech and Technical Support Specialist. 

Skill Up Oklahoma

Skill Up offers free, unlimited access to more than 5,000 high-quality online training courses for 180 days. Click here for a 1-minute video overview of Skill Up. Upgrade your skills through the Metrix online learning platform and receive access to courses (presented in English and Spanish) including:

180 Skills Program

180 Skills offers free access to 13 career program certifications in logistics, aerospace manufacturing and advanced manufacturing. Graduates of Career Programs have the opportunity to earn a nationally recognized certification from 180 Skills and SpaceTec®. SpaceTEC is the National Science Foundation’s National Resource Center that promotes and educates candidates for technical employment. Certification exams are offered through a nation-wide consortium of community and technical colleges, universities, business and industry organizations, and government agencies. 

Dislocated Worker Program

Oklahomans filing for unemployment also have the opportunity to receive free skills training, career transition services and supportive services to help with re-entering the workforce in a high demand industry or occupation in the state. Resources include:

  • Free training and employment services, like on-the-job training, transitional employment, job readiness training, and even high school equivalency services.
  • Job search and placement assistance for resumes and interview prep.
  • Skills assessments to help identify skills you have that transfer to other industries and occupations.
