Special Family Hunts Application Period Open Now!
This year, the Wildlife Department is offering special family hunts for families on three Wildlife Management Areas. Applications are open for hunts at Okmulgee, Arbuckle Springs and Cross Timbers Wildlife Management Areas.
This is a project designed to provide more family hunting opportunities, initiated originally in 2023 after a survey of female hunters identified the need. The application is free and open through June 20.
Deer taken during this special hunt do not count toward your season’s bag limit. A family consists of one to two adults 21 and older, plus one to three children aged 10-17. The hunts are held throughout November and December. Learn more or apply below.
Login to your Go Outdoors Oklahoma profile and select "Controlled Hunts" to apply.
Longtime Outdoor Oklahoma TV Host Bids Farewell to Camera
Outdoor Oklahoma is celebrating 50 consecutive years of continuous broadcasting on OETA later this year, and Todd Craighead has been the host for nearly 25 of those years! Todd recently retired, bringing an end to an era. Since 2000, Todd has been the face of the ODWC's television show and greeted viewers every Sunday morning, showcasing the abundant hunting, fishing and outdoor opportunities sportsmen and sportswomen enjoy. Todd's first featured appearance in 1998 was a turkey hunt, so we thought it would only be fitting if he finished his career with a turkey hunt. Follow along as we celebrate Todd's career, as well as his quest for one last bird on camera.
Tune in to this special YouTube premiere episode this Friday, June 6 at noon. Watch with other Outdoor Oklahoma viewers and leave Todd a comment or two, he just might be watching with you!
Free Fishing Days are June 7-8
Oklahoma's Free Fishing Days are June 7-8, when anyone may fish Oklahoma waters without a state fishing license (a free paddlefish permit is still required, and some city permits may still be required).
Free Fishing Days are the ideal time for avid anglers to invite newcomers to experience the sport without the initial investment of a fishing license. Anglers looking to introduce someone new to fishing can also check out the Wildlife Department's summer calendar full of suburban fishing clinics where fishing licenses are not required. Find them on our Outdoor Calendar.
New Raffles Available Now
The Wildlife Department recently announced its newest slate of Outdoor Oklahoma Adventures raffles, and tickets are available now! There are five raffles being offered, including a chance at a premier private land cow elk hunt in southwest Oklahoma (you're eligible even if you've been drawn for an elk hunt through the Oklahoma Controlled Hunts Program); a turkey hunt at Lively Ranch in Northwest Oklahoma; a guided striped bass fishing trip at Lake Texoma; a hog hunt at Deer Time Ranch near Carney; and a lifetime combination hunting and fishing license.
Outdoor Oklahoma Adventures tickets are $10 each, or $30 for a bundle of five tickets. Anyone can enter, whether or not you have a hunting or fishing license, and there is no limit to the number of tickets you can buy. All proceeds go directly to the Wildlife Department to fund conservation and public hunting and fishing opportunities. Read more about Outdoor Oklahoma Adventure Raffles here.
The last day to buy tickets is July 1, but why wait? Click below or go to GoOutdoorsOklahoma.com.
