Up Your Game ... Small Game
ODWC Offers A Small Game Guide You Can Put to Work Right Now
Explore creeks and pastures in new (or renewed) ways this fall by going small game hunting. Squirrels and rabbits might be the stuff of your earliest hunting memories, but the opportunity to hunt these small mammals is still plentiful. And plenty of sportsmen are still taking advantage. According to the Wildlife Department's 2023 Game Harvest Survey, over 16,000 hunters targeted fox squirrels last year, while over 17,000 hunted for the smaller gray squirrel. Nearly 10,000 hunters targeted cottontails, swamp rabbits, and jackrabbits.
With long seasons and widespread public access at Wildlife Management Areas or on lands available through the Oklahoma Land Access Program, you need only carve out the time to go. Check out our small game guide, and take part in the fun while the fall weather is just right for small game hunting.
Opportunity Might be Closer than You Think
Hunting season is officially in full swing! And no matter where you live in the state, there are opportunities to get started or more involved with hunting. Updated legislation and technology paired with liberal seasons and bag limits make it simpler for hunters to do more with their licenses. And with more than a million acres of public access available, hunting is right at your fingertips. Log into your Go Outdoors Oklahoma profile to get your hunting license, and make the most of the opportunities that are there for the taking.
