Kaw: December 31. Elevation above average, water 30’s and murky. White crappie fair on jigs and minnows around brush structure, docks and main lake. Channel and Blue catfish fair on cut bait, minnows, shad and shrimp in flats, main lake and river channel. Winter time crappie action has picked up with nice catches being made on jigs and minnows in 15’ to 25’ of water over brush structures. The action for blue cats and channel cats has been pretty fair for those hardy enough to stand the wind, waves, and cold weather. Fish are stacked in pretty tight schools in the main river and Creek channels. Utilize your electronics to locate these species. The trolling and snagging of paddlefish has been good in the area from the Sarge Creek bridge to the Washunga Bay bridge. Once again, use your electronics to find these prehistoric giants. For the bird watchers, there has been a good migration of bald eagles into the area. Some of the better viewing areas are below Kaw Dam, Sarge Creek, Washunga Bay, Bear Creek recreation areas, and the Arkansas River east of Newkirk. Wishing you Great fishing success in 2019! District 8 Chief Tracy L. Daniel
