WINTER WEATHER: Highway Conditions Alert 2-18-25 as of 9:30 a.m.
Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews in the northwest, north central, northeast, south central Oklahoma, including the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metro areas, are treating slick and hazardous conditions on highways and interstates as freezing drizzle moves across the state. Bridges and overpasses are extremely slick. Drivers should avoid travel today if possible. If travel is unavoidable, slow down and drive for conditions.
Oklahoma Turnpike Authority crews are salting and sanding all turnpikes north of I-40 and will continue to treat turnpikes as necessary and as weather moves farther south.
***Drivers are reminded to stay 200 feet behind road clearing equipment - that's about the length of four school buses - for their safety and the safety of the truck drivers. Give trucks plenty of room to maneuver.***
Check current road conditions on the interactive travel map at www.okroads.org or through the free Drive Oklahoma mobile app.
REMEMBER during winter weather, motorists need to:
- Stay about 200 feet behind road clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
- Allow extra space between vehicles to provide adequate distance for braking.
- Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway but is a thin layer of ice.
- Be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time in reaching destinations.
NOTE: Advisories will be sent from this office as conditions change.
