WINTER WEATHER: Highway Conditions Alert 1-9-21 as of 9 p.m.
Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews in the Oklahoma Panhandle are receiving light snow and treating slick bridges in Cimarron, Texas and Beaver counties. Crews will continue to monitor the northwest and western counties and will respond as conditions change with more precipitation expected to move into the area overnight.
Motorists should check the weather and be alert to changing conditions if heading to the Panhandle, northwest or western portions of the state overnight or in the morning hours.
Drivers can check current road conditions on the interactive travel map at www.okroads.org or through the ODOT app.
NOTE: An advisory will be sent at 5 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 10.
REMEMBER during snowy and icy conditions, motorists are asked to:
• Stay about 200 feet behind road clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
• Allow extra space between vehicles to provide adequate distance for braking.
• Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway but is a thin layer of ice.
• Be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time in reaching destinations.
