FLOODING/WINTER WEATHER: Highway Conditions 1-11-2020 as of 5 a.m.
Slick conditions have the potential to quickly develop this morning as freezing temperatures and precipitation move through the state. Several highways also remain closed due to flooding, and a list of those areas is below.
At this time, slick areas are reported on I-35 in Noble County and also on highways in Kay County. Salt and sand operations are underway in central and northeast Oklahoma. Drivers are urged to closely monitor weather reports and be alert to changing conditions. Visibility may be low in some areas due to fog. Plan additional travel time, slow down and increase following distances. Remember, bridges and overpasses will ice first.
REMEMBER during snowy and icy conditions, motorists are asked to:
• Stay at least 200 feet behind road clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
• Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway but is a thin layer of ice.
• Allow extra space between vehicles to provide adequate distance for braking.
• Be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time in reaching destinations.
NOTE: This office will send an update once road conditions change.
