WINTER WEATHER: Highway Conditions Alert 2-28-19 as of 5 a.m.

Oklahoma highways and interstates are improving in the western part of the state; however, reports of isolated slick spots continue throughout all areas of Oklahoma except the northwestern part of the state. As the temperatures begin to rise throughout the morning, drivers should use caution on their morning commute.

Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews continue to treat highways and bridges including in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metro areas. In the Oklahoma City metro, bridges and overpasses continue to have isolated slick areas. In the Tulsa metro, conditions have improved but there are still some isolated slick spots.

In central parts of the state interstates continues to have slicks areas especially along I-35, I-44 and I-40 on the outskirts of the Oklahoma City Metro. In northern eastern Oklahoma, crews continue to treat slick areas as precipitation falls and temperatures remain below freezing. Drivers should slow down and be alert in this area.

Throughout the morning crews will continue to treat areas across the state as needed.

REMEMBER during snowy and icy conditions, motorists are asked to:

• Stay about 200 feet behind road clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.

• Allow extra space between vehicles to provide adequate distance for braking.

• Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway but is a thin layer of ice.

• Be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time in reaching destinations.

NOTE: Additional advisories will be sent from this office as conditions change.
