Dr. Phillip Earl Willey March 28, 1935 - January 5, 2023
It is with great sadness that Oklahoma State Reformatory (OSR) announces the passing of Dr. Phillip Earl Willey, father of CHSA Brett Willey. Phillip Earl Willey, age 87, a longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, was released from his earthly bonds on January 5, 2023.
Phillip was born on March 28, 1935, in Altus, Oklahoma to his parents, Herbert Monroe and Verna (Lockhart) Willey. He was raised and educated in Altus, Oklahoma. During his senior year, Phillip was voted most likely to succeed, best personality, and overall best senior of honor. Upon his graduation from Altus High School in 1953 he began his higher education at Oklahoma University in Norman, Oklahoma. With one semester of college under his belt he married his high school sweetheart Shirlene Sue Halve on August 15, 1954. Helping to provide for his new family Phillip worked as a medical tech in Norman, Oklahoma. Just before graduation Phillip and Shirlene welcomed their first son, Phillip David to the family. In 1958, Phillip was given admittance to dental school in Kansas City, Missouri. Upon receiving his doctorate in dentistry, the Willey family returned home to Altus, where Phillip started his dental practice in 1961. Soon the Willey family would be blessed with the birth of Steve in 1962, Darin in 1964, and Brett in 1968.
Phillip was very active in all activities in Altus, Oklahoma such as numerous civic clubs, the state dental organization, and the local chamber of commerce. A huge love of Phillip's life was his love of all sports, he enjoyed all OU sports but was the biggest fan of Altus Bulldog sports. In 2000, he was honored for his longevity and fandom by naming him "fan of the year" by Altus All Sports. He loved to hunt Quail, Pheasant, Deer, and Elk. Phillip and Shirlene were very active and devoted members of the First Baptist Church of Altus. He served on numerous boards, and committees, and taught Sunday school classes for over twenty years. Phillip was a devoted follower and proud Christian Man.
He considered himself truly blessed to have so many friends and that he and Shirlene had the opportunity to travel the world. He enjoyed hosting parties and the highlight every year of the Willey family parties was the annual Fourth of July celebration.
Phillip will be remembered for his loving smile, his infectious laughter, his devotion to his family, and his love for Jesus.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Monroe and Verna (Lockhart) Willey, brother Bill Willey Sr., sister, Jo Caviness, brother-in-law, Larry Halve, great niece, Tara Willey, his son, Steve Willey who passed in 1986, and his beloved wife, Shirlene who passed in 2022.
Left to honor his loving memory are his sons, David Willey, Darin Willey, Brett Willey, and wife Sherry; grandchildren, Carley Willey Morales and husband James, Jessica Willey, Skylar Willey, Jill Rubi Clark, Anna Willey, Mason Willey; great-grandchildren, Victor Morales, Russell Morales, and Jaxon Willey.
The Willey family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m - 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2023, at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home Chapel, 1100 East Tamarack Road, Altus, OK 73521, with Brandon Willey officiating.
