Johnnie Keel National Excellence in Teaching Agriculture Award Winner

The National Agriculture in the Classroom Organization (NAITCO), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Farm Credit partner each year to honor teachers in kindergarten through 12th grade from around the country for the innovative ways they use agricultural concepts to teach reading, writing, math, science, social studies, STEM, STEAM and more. This year, Johnnie Keel, Gifted and Talented teacher at Truman Elementary in Norman, Oklahoma, and seven other teachers from around the country have been selected as the 2019 National Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Award winners.

2019 AITC STUDENT CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED

173 educators and over 4,500 students entered the AITC Coloring/Poster contest. Thank you!! Many amazing artists live in Oklahoma! To view the winning artwork, visit the AITC website and look for "Contests" under the "About Us" tab. Overall winners and first place winners will be recognized at Ag Day on April 2 at the capitol.

ELEMENTARY LIBRARIANS, WE NEED YOUR HELP

Oklahoma AITC is applying for a grant to host a one day agriculture tour/conference just for elementary school librarians!! As a part of the grant application, we need you to complete a quick survey to show the interest in such a conference. You are not signing up, you are just indicating that you would be interested in attending. 

If we receive the grant, the event would include all of this for FREE: 

  • a morning of touring agriculture venues related to children's books
  • lunch
  • an afternoon of hands on lessons/activities to take back for your students which are connected to the same books
  • 5 FREE books and NEW educational student resources to accompany the books. 

Please complete the following survey and let us know if this is an opportunity that would interest you. Just for participating in the survey, you will be entered into a drawing to receive a FREE book. The book will be given away on April 1!!

Apply to attend "Ag on Rt 66," June 4-6. This year we will travel from Kellyville (Slick) to El Reno. If you are selected to attend, the cost will be $50. Applicants will be notified in April to let you know if you are attending or on the waiting list. Space is limited, sign up today!

Apply to attend "Exploring STEM and Literacy through Agriculture," June 10-12. This tour will be at the Noble Research Institute in Ardmore. Preference will be given to High School and Middle School teachers of any subject area. This event is FREE. Applicants will be notified in April to let you know if you are attending or on the waiting list. Space is limited, sign up today!

The AITC State Summer Conference is July 11, at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee from 8:30-4:00. This fantastic conference will be full of workshops presented by outstanding AITC educators. This is a FREE conference that you do not want to miss!
