American Fidelity Teacher Fellowship

2022 AF Teacher Fellowship Application

The AF Teacher Fellowship provides teachers an opportunity to spend the summer with a corporate technology team learning about software development, enterprise information management or technical infrastructure projects.

They can then take this experience back to their classrooms to help their students learn about and prepare for these careers.

As a member of American Fidelity’s STEM Fellowship, you will be provided an immersive look into how STEM is implemented within American Fidelity. You will learn concepts in many subject areas such as software development, security operations, data analytics, database administration, IT operations, and much more. You will also have the opportunity to shadow and work along side many of AF’s IT professionals in these areas. Previous program participants have used the relationships and information gained through the program to enhance how they demonstrate STEM career possibilities in their classrooms.

The AF Teacher Fellows will earn $30 per hour for the time they work over the course of the program. Schedules will be flexible to accommodate differing school summer schedules, required professional development days, etc. This flexibility includes up to two unpaid weeks off. AF Teacher Fellows will also receive a $2,000 stipend to use for their classroom upon completion of the program.

Who Is Eligible? Applications are open until Feb. 25, 2022, and are open to third- through 12th-grade STEM teachers. Qualified applicants will be required to attend a virtual interview March 18. You do not need to have prior IT experience. As long as you teach science, technology, engineering or math, you're eligible!

Our goal is to have onsite collaboration at our headquarters in OKC as permitted but will be flexible as needed with virtual options.Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for consideration.

Student Opportunities

International Math Content

It's time again for another exciting math competition season! As always, registration for the 7th annual International Math Contest opens on January 1st. This year, the contest will be open to students in grades 3-10.

For the past six years, the RSM Foundation has organized the International Math Contest (IMC) as a way to give parents insight into how their child's math knowledge compares to that of his or her international peers. Last year nearly 30,000 students across the US, Europe, and Asia registered for the contest!

The IMC features a free 30-minute Online Challenge in February which serves as a qualifier for the challenging Russian Math Olympiad (RMO) in April.  Participation in the contest is FREE with the option of purchasing a performance report that will provide deep insight into your child's grasp of mathematical concepts that are traditionally mastered by their international peers.

Grades:  3-10

Competition:  February 1

2022 National Simulation Challenge

In partnership with Flinn Scientific’s WhiteBox Learning (WBL), we are excited to announce the 2nd KidWind Simulation Challenge. In this Challenge, students will use the WhiteBox Learning simulation software to construct and test virtual turbines and wind farms.

This year we have added a new division for students interested and able to 3D print the blade sets designed in the simulator. Students who have the appropriate equipment can print their wind turbine blades and then test and share the performance of these 3D printed blades in our Online Challenge portal.

There are three divisions (4-5, 6-8, 9-12) in the National Simulation Challenge. Students can participate alone or on a team. If you are on a team, please note that each participant's performance in the sim will be aggregated using an algorithm that includes all team members' scores.

Registration Period: January 15 - March 1, 2022

The Choose Aerospace aviation maintenance curriculum puts students on a pathway to FAA mechanic certification. The curriculum—intended for use in a high school setting but deployable in current part 147 schools and community-based workforce development programs—uses a hybrid approach to learning. It combines traditional delivery methods (classroom, textbook, and in-person labs) with e-learning methods (video lecture, e-book, virtual and augmented reality simulations and exercises) using a nationally deployable e-learning platform. It is intended to be used in the classroom, but many of the elements can be taught online, or student-paced. Minimal equipment and materials are required.
