Webb Gardens
Brenda Brewer, Broken Arrow native lives on her newly purchased,15 Acre farm in Nowata, OK. She has been growing and gardening most of her life and worked in the floriculture industry while raising her 3 children Andy, Kasey & Taussen. She started out gardening as a child when her mother, who also gardened, would give her cuttings, and cast offs and Brenda would take them and plant them in her own little area. Brenda’s dream of gardening large scale, not only for her gorgeous flowers, but for produce were realized when she was able to purchase her very own land and home through the FSA this past April! Now that she has the land, Brenda looks to expand from her flower bouquets to growing enough produce to bring to market. To achieve her goals, she looks to get a couple hoop houses & eventually build a greenhouse as well! Long term she one day hopes to build a studio that she can use to harvest & store her bouquets for market and to also host workshops & classes for others to learn to do what she does. Before she makes her goals a reality, she did note that the soil health on her property needs tended so she plans on having loads of mushroom compost brought to her farm to assist with soil rejuvenation. Luckily her new land came with a few large areas already fenced off and set with irrigation, so she was able to immediately get some of her flowers planted. Brenda did mention that due to the timing of her move some of her flowers are a couple weeks behind what they would be normally, but she is confident in an abundant harvest. Moving from her 1 acre that she was previously working on in Catoosa to her new property, Brenda is now able to plant enough produce to bring to market, in her words “The goal is to grow produce too, I’ve always wanted to grow produce. Flowers make everyone happy, and I love them, but people need good healthy food & I would like to grow enough food to give to food banks to help feed people.”
When asked about how she started Farmers’ markets and why the Rose District Farmers’ Market, Brenda said, “I felt like that was the first step to getting my flowers out there. It’s one thing to be able to sell to florists but at the market, I set up & I have vendors that are friends & repeat customers & people from the community that stop to chat & that makes it totally worth it for me. I grew up in BA & lived there for most my life, went to school there & graduated there & I love being able to sell in my hometown.” This being her 3rd year with the market Webb Gardens, she is in her fourth season in growing fresh, seasonal cut flowers and produce without chemicals/pesticides.
“Everything I grow is from seed without any sprays. I want everything to be safe and natural.” She is currently growing: Cosmos, Zinnias, Larkspur, Snapdragons, Sunflowers, Amaranth, Bachelor Buttons, Celosia, Asters, Phlox, Statice, Queen Anne’s lace, Gomphrena, Scabious, Dahlias along with her 350 tomato plants & various herbs with plans to expand to many other types of produce!
For her property Brenda also shared her plans to plant hydrangeas in the tree line & plant lilacs as wind breaks, have an entire acre of lavender as well as a sunflower field, a giant dahlia bed and a rose bed & she has already started an English garden with intentions to make it something out of a storybook.
Brenda hopes to one day pass down her business to her children, a couple of which you may have seen at the market assisting with her booth & they have even been seen giving away leftover flowers to the children playing in the Interactive Water Feature after-market hours.
Located in the center of the main pavilion, you can find this sweet, classy lady along with her beautiful bouquets of cut flowers and on occasion, tomato plants, herb starts and produce!
Many customers have reported that, floral arrangements from Webb Garden have lasted up until the next Saturday when they can purchase another bouquet at the market!

Vang Farm
Just north of Oolaga is the small town of Talala Oklahoma, home of Vang Farm. The Vangs have not always been farmers but became farmers once May fell in love with gardening. 14 years ago, May had an injury that resulted in extensive physical therapy to gain function back to her hand, & as a part of that therapy she started to garden. She wanted to learn everything there was to know about gardening, so she went to classes at the OSU extension office to learn more & never looked back! Eventually, both enjoying it so much, the Vangs’ started farming on their land in Talala. Though they live in Tulsa, the Vang’s drive to their 10-acre farm in Talala every day to tend to their crops on the 3 acres they have planted. Before coming to the market, the Vangs sold their produce commercially but did not find any joy in it so they looked into Farmers’ Markets as an option and 12 years ago became part of our Rose District Farmers’ Market family. May had said that she started the market by sharing a booth space with another vendor but over time was able to expand to the two booth spaces they have now. Mr. and Mrs. Vang love the people that come and see them at the market and say it is their continued support that has allowed them to grow as a business. May also noted that seeing the people at the market happy & enjoying being there brings her heart joy.
Their biggest struggle this year have been the deer who have helped themselves to many of the crops. They have even fortified their fences with 10’ tall netting to try to dissuade the deer from jumping their fences! May says she uses her hair as well to try to deter the deer. As a farm that does not utilize sprays, they have had to come up with creative ways to keep the bugs away. One of the most notable ways is they spray with beer often followed up by Mr. Vang having a cold beer at the end of a long hot day.
When asked about their soil, they are proud to note that they have built up the health of the soil enough that they just go out and plant each year now. They initially brought in chicken compost but since are able to maintain soil health by rotating their crops each season. To keep produce in stock for as long as possible they also stagger the planting of certain crops so they can have an early row and late row for producing. May also let us know that there are many parts of plants that are not usually eaten that they often use in cooking, one of which being pepper leaves that they use in soups and in stir fry!
The Vangs are at the Rose District Farmers’ Market every Saturday, located under the large pavilion on the South side. At peak season you can often find their two-tiered lines of tables stacked with rows and rows of various fresh produce first thing in the morning as they often have very little to nothing left to take home by the end of the market. They have also become an integral part of our Tuesday evening market often the only or one of very few produce vendors that are able to harvest for a midweek market as well as the weekend market. Come on by the Vangs’ bustling booth any time Tuesday or Saturday to purchase their wide variety of produce!
