Broken Arrow Fire Station #7 Now Open
The City of Broken Arrow officially opened a new Fire Station #7 at 201 E. Washington St. on January 12. During a hose uncoupling ceremony for the new facility, Chief Jeremy Moore highlighted the improvements made in the department since 2015. He credited the leadership of the City Council, City Manager Michael Spurgeon, the department's administrative team, and the fortitude of the frontline firefighters for the department's success. Fire Station 7 is more than 12,000 square feet and includes eight modern semi-private rooms, four large bays, two captain's bunks and offices, a battalion chief bunk and office, a commons area, physical fitness space, and a public restroom.

Trash and Recycling Update
The rebuild of the Tulsa Recycle & Transfer facility continues with the expectation of becoming operational in early 2022. "We're in the process of putting a brand new Mr. Murph in, and it's going to be bigger and better than ever," said Robert Pickens, Vice President of Recycling for TRT. "We're looking at a February 2022 start-up of Mr. Murph 2.0." Representatives from the City of Broken Arrow were invited to tour the facility, and the new Murph, to see the progress being made. The Murph is a massive green and yellow structure with robotic arms and conveyor belts that sort out recyclables gathered and collected from several communities including Broken Arrow. The original Murph processed 187 tons every week. The new Murph is expected to exceed that.
We ask that you continue to loosely place your recyclables like cardboard, plastic bottles, and newspaper in the blue cart. Don't bag the recyclables, simply place them in the blue cart. Please make sure the blue cart is free of trash. This helps keep our processing fees lower and it reduces contamination. Trash should be bagged and placed in the black cart.

 Sanitation Santas
For more than 40 years, City of Broken Arrow Sanitation Manager Bill Cade and the Solid Waste and Recycling Department have delivered Christmas miracles to Broken Arrow children in need.
Cade has been with the City for more than 46 years. He started the Sanitation Santa program after seeing a little boy named Chris running behind his bike-riding friends. Cade talked it over with the people in his department, and they decided on a name for the program. They immediately started putting their money together and bought presents for people having hardships at Christmas.
The Sanitation Santas adopted 39 kids this past holiday season and provided toys, clothes, and even refurbished used bicycles as well. This is an amazing reminder that the holiday season is about giving and we're truly proud our employees found it in their hearts to help those in need.
